It's also easier to blaze the tires by going from idle, rev the throttle and dump the clutch while the engine is accellerating and mat the gas. If you just hold the engine to 3k rpm, the turbo won't spool since the engine isn't under a load.
The Gremlin would have had a 232 or a 258 upright six. Slant six was Chrysler.
