I get the exact same noises that you describe...

I too went with the GM CAI and cat-back exhaust. A summary of my experience:

* Throatier sound (especially when downshifting when approaching a stop...kinda gurgles)

* Less MPG...went from 26 average to 24.5 (not too bad...still better then my Hummer)

* Horrible noise (as described above) when starting after a long period of inactivity (dealer said this was a necessary discomfort when having the CAI installed...something about pressure needing to build up for something or other)

* Slight metal on metal sound when shifting during acceleration (dealer said this is normal for GM manual transmissions...apparently there was a 'bulletin' released regarding this)

Some good...some bad...money WELL SPENT? Not 'well' spent...spent with a slight hint of regret. Luckily I rolled the parts and install into the cost of car at the time of purchase, so I really don't feel like I came out of pocket at all.
