Another head turner

Well, we just put a deposit down on the "Smartcar" which should be available in early 2008. Wonder if it will get as much attention from other drivers as the Sky?

I played around with the colors, and I could make one identical to my Sky. Mid Blue and silver around the windshield

We went with black with the silver trim. Probably won't keep the car long at all....hopefully since they'll only be about 15000 of them I'll be able to flip it and make a couple grand. The deposit was only $99 and its fully refundable so I figured what the heck.....besides....I was so pissed it didn't come in bluestone so I know I won't keep it....

Maybe I'll put one down too. Do you think they'd take $75 and a case of Heineken?

If you read "Consumer Report" ... ya ... they were very negative on this car. But when I was in Europe I saw them everywhere.

I didn't see an option for the Heineken. I did, however, put in a reservation for a black on black fortwo passion with red interior. It could turn out to be a fun way to keep the miles off my Sky, but if I don't want it, I'll just get my $100 back. If I end up hating it, it shouldn't be too hard to sell if the production numbers are that low. This could prove to be a fun little experiment!

Funny looking little car. It looks like the car stopped short and the rear end almost caught up with the front end!!

It will get attention for a VERY different reason. The very cute and ugly thing. Kind of like a pug, so ugly that it is cute.

Not for me, but a great commuter car for mid range commutes!

Bad plan. You're gonna need the Heineken after you see the thing parked in your driveway...

Well, if it's too bad, maybe I'll send it to visit Spirit and the Ranger. It'll have the color scheme you love so much!

I sat in the roadster in Detroit at the 2006 Woodward Dream Cruise last year and it was awesome! Not much power, but exceptionally safe and very good MPG. Unfortunately, it will not be coming to the US. I tried to order one and they said it would not make it to the USA ever. The Consumer Reports folks said the Smart for 2 is loud and underpowered. All I know is that in Nova Scotia 2 years ago I saw one pass my SSR going 90 MPH!!!!!! That got my attention. I also saw a video last year of a smart4two crash test where the car went 60 MPH headon into a concrete barrier. The cars doors still opened and the dummy sustained zero injuries. I know of no other car that can withstand that. the roll cage in the thing is like something out of NASCAR!!!!

As far as consumer rports goes, wait and see what they say about the SOL's and the Skys. I can bet it won't be flattering. They rarely are on AMERICAN CARS AND TRUCKS. My feeling is they are somewhat biased and opinionated and lean towards the foreign auto market for whatever reason they choose.

I have driven these in Europe and they are so much fun. Remember though that they were designed for two things, gas mileage and short commutes. The one I drove in Germany would easily do 95+ mph on the autobaun. Saw one that was in a wreck with a full size Mercedez. The Merc was totaled and the passengers had major injuries. The Smart had major damage as well but the cockpit area was intact and there were no injuries to either passenger.

That car has been sold in Europe for over 9 years and they have worked the bugs out long ago. Roger Penske's company will be the main importer of the car here and the "Captain" would not not touch a deal like this if he thought there would be problems. Like the Sky, it's major bang for the buck. Just remember you're not going to drive one of these from New York to California. Probabaly not even New York to Chicago. Bottom line, I'd buy one for a commuter car. Just my two cents.
