Dodge Demon Video

This was posted on the Sol forum and I thought it might be of intrest here. Inot being a Sky Homer but that car is not as good looking as the Sky or Sol. The front grill looks bad and the lines of the car don't really go together. But it does have better cupholders.

I like the exterior but the interior has got to go. At 15K, it might be a worthy entry into the small roadster market for them. I really hope they do something about that interior before they bring it to market though.

Like a largemouth bass that's just heaved its last breath...

Throw some curb feelers on it and it'll be a catfish!

I'm still not digging that grill but if they can put that car on the market for around $15k it's going to make some real waves. I have to wonder how much they are stripping from the base model to make that price. The Solstice is fairly basic and starts just over $22k, the MX-5 is just over $21k, to drop $6-7K below that would be very aggressive regardless of how stripped down it is.

I agree with Talz! Nice video. I like the Demon better than the Miata. However, the 15K will be a totally stripped down, bare bones vehicle. By the time you add all the extras most drivers want, my guess by the time the smoke clears this car will approach 25K. Remember the Solstice started out at about $19,900. How many do you think went out the Pontiac door at that price? Not many if any.

I have a feeling this is just a continuation of the Razor that was a concept a few years back. A car that was just setup for weekend fun and really no ammenities to make the car more expensive. No AC/Heat, open cockpit only, just a lightweight car, that is responsive and fun to drive. We'll see if it makes it to production...

That is what I was thinking. Not bad for 15K though. If the Sky or Solstice never came out that would look better. This is a better daily commuter at that price tag.

I can see where they want to keep that crosshair "signature" grill -(I never liked it but Dodge does)- but on a small sleek car they need to take some meat out of the grill work. Black out the grill to give it an open mouth look or just a slim chrome or car color crosshair more in scale with the car's size...
Other than that - it is a fine car -- and will have its fans

yeah if it has an hemi, I may take a close look at it, for a little more than 15K.
at that price, GM may have to think about lowering the sol and sky's price a bit, or else GM won't sell too many of them after this comes out. Dodge has hit out of the ballpark on a lot of it's cars lately, and well other than the front, it looks to be pretty good. that front looks more like the charger than what a nice roadster should look like. but if it makes production, which with the popularity of the sky and the sol it looks very likely to do so.

The pictures do not do it justice...I know the front end in pics looks like it needs a retooling...but in person, it tells another story...I tried to get a good look at the interior and also in pics did not look great...at a distance, it did not look bad....sadly to say this will not be produced unless someone has enough capital to buy Chrysler...remember, they r trying to dump it!

There are a number of potential questions or issues here that have not been addressed. Regarding the $15,000 target price tag of the Demon, remember that the Soltice/Sky is a high labor content vehicle for a reason. The value that we are getting for our dollars is in the rear wheel drive architecture, the very tight Kappa platform, and the sports car suspension. Sky's are not referred to as Mini-Vette's for nothing. To get to $15,000, Chrysler will have to sacrifice one or more of those things. The result will be seen in back ends that don't hold in corners, excessive body role, and body's that creak and fail the quality test.

I recommend watching videos of factory Dodge Vipers and Corvettes manage the same race courses and you will see how Vipers spin out over and over again. Corvettes are famous for their handling and Sky's are no different.

Now Chrysler could produce the Demon in Mexico or China to lower labor costs, but that would not make up for the fact the GM uses its labor to build a very rigid rear wheel drive architecture into our cars that can take very demanding loads. Read "The Pontiac Solstice Book" by Gary Witzenburg and you will see what I mean.

Sky's compare with S2000's for a reason. They are sports cars, not just 2 seat roadsters, which I am afraid is all that the Demon will be.

Mercury Capri?

From what I saw the Dodge Demon will be more like the Ford Mercury Capri was in the 90's and how many remember those cars? Budget price, no power, no leather interior, and lots of plastic. This is if someone invests in or buys Chrysler. I would also compare the new Demon to the old Chevy Caviler Convertible which is NOT a safe car and no power.

Saw it a month or so back in one of my C&D or MT mags. It didn't excite me. When I first saw the Solstice, it was like wow. Then when the Sky came out, it was like holy cow. I just gotta feel the car, to buy the car.

That's exactly what happened to me. I still have the mag with the pics of the black solstices with cobbled together rag tops! That was the first time I ever saw the kappa and I had to have one. Then the sky came out and I fell in love all over again. The demon looks like they tried too hard. The front end looks like a truck (horrible). The interior cup holders might work, but I have the same cupholders in my Ford 500 and they gather dirt and crud real fast thats hard to get out when mixed with sweaty glasses and cups. I say, their going to need to change the front end. Try a front end like the copper head. That was a nice looking car, but if they did it would just look like a kappa wannbe at this point in the game. Sorry Charlie.
