Even Exotic car owners take PICS of us
Not trying to start anything, I thought it was cool for a Lotus guy on the Lotus forum to take a pic of a GXP and a SKY in front of him, of course the others on the board jump in and say stuff like " they must have looked in the mirror and said where do I get one of those" They dont show love to other cars, but we DO!

Take the pic as a compliment, and take the comment as just fun jabbing. Edit: Oh, and by the way, I can knock the Lotus. It's a pretty car. I hear it is a blast to drive. But I have several ergonomic problems with it. I'm a fat ass American. And my ass won't fit in the car. Also, my feet are big, so half the time when I'm going for the accelerator, I be braking...and same thing for the clutch. Back to the fatness. If I ever do get my fat ass IN the car, I will need to hire a tow truck to get it out..that can become very expensive and embarrassing. "Hello Onstar...I'm stuck in the car". And perhaps most embarrassing, I will add about 12% to the weight of the car. And since weight and performance are mapped linearly, I won't be setting any quarter mile records no matter how good I am. And I wonder what that 12% does to the suspension balance? "Yep George, I can see the suspension leaning left through the turn...no...wait....it's going straight". There is one thing to be said for big muscle cars that weigh a lot and have big fat V8 HP monsters and big fat suspensions. When a fat ass driver sits in one, the percentage increase in weight is much smaller, the suspension laughs at the tweak, and the big horses pretty much make up for the rest. Oh, and one more thing, we have a relatively nice radio...and without my Monsoon, how would I get my daily fix of THIS?

I don't know why people get caught up in thinking that the model of car they own "is the best" or so much better than another. I think we are fortunate to be living in the greatest time ever for automobiles. Think about, the technology is better than ever and we have more choices than ever. I'm a total car guy and like a lot of what's out there.
(I have a truck, two crossovers (one for me and one for the wife), a vette, motorcycle, and of course my favorite, the Sky.) Lotus has some cool cars and Mustangs are nice too. I've been partial to GM over the last 5 years but every manufacturer has a least one good model in their line-up IMO.![]()

People used to pester me about being a "vette guy," but I simply explain to them I am a car guy. While I may not personally want certain vehicles, I can respect people's reasons for choosing them.
Some like driving big gokarts, some like to blend in and just get to work, some like cars that look fast but aren't, while others like the opposite. At the end of the day it's your ride and you should do what makes you happy, just, if you happen to be going slower than me, stay the hell out of my way ![]() Last edited by fr0stb1t3 : 08-08-2008 at 09:43 PM. |

Sean:
You should remind tandemracer that Lotus was GM from 1986 until 1993. And that the Corvette is GM... Z06 = Regular car??? Cadillac XLR-V = Regular car??? Now, shall we compare the RL to the Elise SC??? RL is on the left, Elise is on the right... red = advantage... Base price: $30,115 vs. $54,500 Weight: 2990 vs. 2006 Engine: 2.0L vs. 1.8L Tranny: 5 Speed Manual vs. 6 Speed Manual Horsepower: 260@5300 vs. 218@8000 Torque: 260@2500 vs. 156@5000 Displacement: 1998 vs. 1796 Bore X Stroke: 3.38 X 3.38 vs. 3.23 X 3.35 Compression: 9.2 vs. 11.5 With the Elise, power windows are an option, air conditioning is not available, traction control is an option... all standard with the SKY RL. Fuel economy: 19/28 vs. 20/22 Powertrain warranty: 60/100,000 vs. 36/36,000 Value for money... definitely the SKY RL. However, the Elise is an amazing car. Good looks... good power... amazingly low weight.

No, the Kappa won in the end because the Solstice GXP beat out the Lotus in last year's SCCA, taking first, second, and third. In fact, the third place Solstice winner was a Lotus driver who changed mounts (switched from Lotus to Solstice) for the final runoff.

HP is just apart of the reason i purchased my RL versus others in its class.
The number one reason was looks, number 2 was price, all else followed. My whole point to this thread was that some car owners do not give credit to any other car but their make! I have not seen a trend for SKY and Sol owners to look down on other makes! ( Mazda,BMW, Honda, Audi, Chrysler, Nissan) We spank the above cars in Speed, handling and looks! But I do however appreciate the value that each brings to the Automobile word! In other words I do give credit to the above car brands. Seems that owners of certain models crap on ALL other Brands!

Interestingly, since the Z0K is not a factory option for the SKY, I don't think you can compete in the T2 class with a SKY fitted with Z0K.

I'd think in most situations a stock Elise S would beat up on a Sky RL around the twisties but in a good mix the sky's torque would even it out a bit more. Once the mods start coming in though all bets are off. A Sky RL with the KW coilovers, a good IC/Exhaust, and a tune would be a VERY potent road racing car. |
