Sky got stolen!!!

What a sweet looking car but, Breckland Technology appears to have ripped off Saturn Sky/Opel GT. Doesn't the fenders, humps, doors, mirrors, waterfall, and the covertible top look familiar? Even radio placement.

The Kappa platform is here to stay. I see it as a compliment to the solid design. I wouldn't be surprise if more 3rd parties start picking this up as basis for their custom cars.

I agree, but they should comment on where the technology came from, it's not as if they engineered it themselves.

here is a quote from topspeed.com

"Don’t you think the car has a familiar look? Yes, you are right, it does! The car is based on the Opel GT to which the company adds a V8 engine. With this new roadster, Breckland Technology will enter the UK roadster market dominated by Marcos and TVR."

the GT is not available in Britain.. so guess this fills the gap in the market

I'd say they just followed the Mallett play book. If something works, copy it.

Wow, from the title of this thread, I thought someon had actually gotten their car stolen!

Though I just realized that I haven't heard of anyone getting their Sky stolen at all. I guess the theives figure the car stands out too much (and they probably don't like OnStar looking over their shoulder either).

I sold my kit car just before I got my Sky. I built a Countach replica on a Fiero foundation. I installed a Chevy 350 to make it go. It was a lot of fun, but I wanted a real car, so I bought the Sky. I think the Kappa platform would be a wonderful foundation for kit cars. With a V8, the Kappa's performance is much closer to an exotic than the Fiero's could ever have been.

I agree that this guy's kit car is a compliment to the Kappa platform.

i agree. i like the fins on the rear bumper (doesn't look like a separate valence to me). i'm surprised there is not already an aftermarket valence with fins available.

If, our Kappa’s looked like that car … and then Beira designs their car to look like our current Sky or Solstice body style … many would wish to switch.

Folks, I still think we have the best looking car on the road … period.

Now if it only came stock with a V8/397 HP doing 0 - 60mph in 3.9 sec …

But then most of the current Kappa owners would not be owner’s … but just admirer’s

That is an impressive and classy looking interior. I also like the look of the front, smooth lines and less grill area. Ge rid of the big elongated pocket for European license plates (don't need a front plate here) and it would look fantastic.

Just got a Google Alert on this car... Motor Trend has an article on it.

Breckland Beira - Auto News - Motor Trend

A thing I noticed... the shifter is not a short shifter. Why would they use a taller shift???

Also, in the article it states... "GM was also sourced for the cloth convertible top, while the interior is all custom-made by Breckland. "

Looking at the interior pics, especially the attached image... it just looks like they covered the SKY interior with fabrics and paint.

The interior almost looks like suede?

I love the matching colors on the windshield frame and behind the seats

I've been looking for something classy to send to JPM for an upgrade. Those seats are it.

They don't credit GM nearly enough. They make it sound like they built the whole car themselves, yet it's barely changed at all other then some body panels and the engine. Just cause you re-cover the interior doesn't mean you custom made it.

They say they use a GM chassis. You buy it and send it to them to rebuild or they buy it and remake it same as Mallett.

Looks to me like a Lotus Elise in the rear and a Maserati in the front. The way the front is built looks more aerodynamic than the Sky's.It Might allow for better hight speed performance.

It takes some pretty serious work to jam a V8 into a kappa especially if you put a six speed stick in with it. It's no walk in the park.

I guess I should have kept reading. I still think they should have changed it up a little more though. It's still way too similar to the Opel.

In a sense, this is sort of a combination of a Mallet conversion, plus an interior cover, plus some body panel changes.

One nice thing about the kappa when it come to aftermarket is the kappa base architecture is designed to provide more or all body rigidity. This allows designers a lot of flexibility on the panels since they don't have to carry torsion loads. For the same reason the SKY can look different than the Solstice, the Beira can look different from the SKY or Solstice.

Another thing I found interesting is the electronic limited speed....155mph. It suggests there may be some design limits of the kappa that says to keep it under 160. Probably the top.
