For those trying to turn me to the Sky Side...

I stopped by a dealer tonight! But this is a teaser...it was my dealer. They had a black GXP and of course I had to drive it.

So I'm looking at ordering one! This is a very bad thing for me. If I go through with it...I'll have to get a 2nd job to afford one. I'm insane.

Oh and I saved $50 off my car insurance! J/K!

OK, seriously. This was what I thought about it in comparison to my 06 Solstice (Delivered Nov. 05.)
1. The ride was 10x better than my 06. My 06 is rough. I say this because I drove a Sky last year and found it to be a slightly better ride than my Solstice.
2. It was an automatic. (I have a manual.) Although I did make it squeal a little once and know the thing is stupid fast, it didn't seem that quick driving it. I know I was going 65 like that, but it didn't seem like it being in the driver's seat. I got on it as best I could with the sales guy next to me. I also kicked it in the tail to pass another car. Granted, it's much quicker than my N/A Solstice, I thought it was comparable to my Grand Prix GTP. I thought I'd notice more of a difference between the Grand Prix and GXP considering the weight. I know it has it in it though. I just know it!
3. The tires on that thing were poorly balanced. The steering wheel was fairly jumpy so maybe that was clouding my judgement.
4. Thought the headliner helped with the wind noise. And it was certainly windy today. Also thought it was a pain in the a$$ when putting the top down. Maybe it was just because it was new, but it was way stiff and didn't want to settle into the trunk as easily.
5. I think GM has made a ton of improvements to this car since mine was delivered. The seat height adjuster makes a huge difference for us short folks. Loved sitting up higher! And the door lock button should have been included with the 06. I always thought that was ignorant. The headliner was nice bonus. Handling seemed the same other than the play in the steering wheel, but that should be easy to correct.

Just my

I still loved it though and must give it consideration even though I don't think it's realistic for me to get one right now.

Oh and I have to admit, I like the idea of the red/black interior on the Sky Redline!

But I think I'll keep my 06' Solstice for now! I'd have to take a 2nd job or lease it if I upgrade. We'll see!

Wait...are you my father?!? I keep hearing these voices inside my head! I did have a dream after we all went to O'Fallon. And I saw a lot of Skys in my dream! I think I was driving my Solstice though, but I don't remember.

Seriously though...did you Redline owners notice a difference in the ride between your base Sky and the Redline. Maybe the ride has improved for all? I don't know. I was just really surprised by it!

I'd say get the GXP if you can, but then again, I'm just a little biased.

You know what the guy I'm seeing told me..."We had this discussion. If you get rid of your Solstice you have to buy me an Avalanche!"

Oh I'll buy him an Avalance...it may be a bit smaller scale than he has in mind (like matchbox size!), but it's still an Avalance!!

No wonder I am a happy guy...I drive an Avalanche daily, and then get to hop into the Sky R/L the rest of the time. Hmm, life isn't so bad afterall...

Oh he doesn't even care about my Solstice. He wants an Avalanche and then he wants to hop in my Grand Prix and drive it too! At least he leaves me with the Solstice!

You know what? I'm gonna tell him I'll buy him an Avalanche if he buys me a GXP! And he's still getting a good deal!

When I drove the base sky, then drove my redline, the torque in the lower gears was crazy for the RL. I'm surprised you hardly noticed a difference. Also nailing the RL in 3rd gear through an intersection will always put me into my seat. Maybe you got a dud? I also have a manual transmission, so maybe that's why? Also, the top gets softer and better with time. When I put my top into the trunk, I push it back and it falls into the trunk. I light push in the center and it's snug as a bug. When I first got it, the top was very stifff too. Good luck with your decision. Both the GXP and RL are great cars. I like the short RE and rear lip spoiler on the GXP, but I love the classiness of a silver pearl RL with alloys and no add-ons as well.

The RL is better of course!

Yeah I really think it was the automatic transmission. I didn't drop it in a low gear. I'm sure it would have taken off had I done that. I did make it squeal, but I never got that fly back in your seat feel. It did do a nice job passing another car, but i wouldn't say it was peppier than my Grand Prix. If I do this, I'm definitely getting a manual transmission.

What year is your Avalanche? I'm not sure it would work! I can't remember if yours had the black trim on it. He doesn't want that. And he really wants a blue one. He's picky!

The steering wheel on my redline is centered and dead solid. If you decide to make a purchase, I wouldn't leave the lot until you were satisfied with it.

Midnight Sky - The one I drove was black. If I get one it needs to be red and a manual transmission. The steering on my Solstice is solid too. That's how I noticed it. It was different. I hope whoever buys that one figures it out. I mentioned something to the sales guy with me, but he wasn't the brightest star in the sky.

Skybaby - He might be OK with Black on Black! If you ever want to sell it, let me know.

BTW - I told him if he gets me a GXP, I'll get him an Avalanche. He hasn't said no yet! It could happen! Doubt it, but it could!
