toyota sports car hybrid....

http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/fths.html

I know it's no where near as sweet looking as The Sky, but the hope is for 400 HP and 0-60 in the 4 second range... I'm really curious to see what the fuel economy will really be like. They're also claiming it'll be approximately $35,000...not unreasonable for a convertable sports car of its' purported ability.
The one and only thing that bothers me about my Sky is that I average 20 MPG (I seldom drive on highways). My last car was a 2004 Honda Civic EX that averaged 30 MPG on surface streets. I just feel it's financially, politically, and environmentally irresponsible in this day and age to drive a vehicle that gets less than 30 MPG. I love my Sky, and I will continue to drive it until a viable alternative becomes available. I love to drive....that's why I picked The Sky... when another car that is affordable and equally fun to drive becomes available which satisfies my wishes to feel like a responsible citizen of both The U.S. and World then I will make that leap...until then I'll be having fun in my Sky.

certainly has copycat lines of the G35 2 door coupe. I am not talking about the other areas...just the profile.

I like it better than the G35...but it's still a concept car which means the chances of it actually being built are....well...... ya know....

From the article "Seating is optimized for a lightweight appearance and function: The seating accommodates four and then converts to a two-seater when the roof retracts."

now THAT I like!!!!!!!

I'm looking to the lexus with open arms and wide eyes. They rumor it to be a Ferrari beater(500+ HP, V10 or 12). And if Toyota makes a 400HP car for 35,000 I'll buy two and combine them into an 800HP uber car

Here is the one I am looking at: http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/
Not as powerful, but it is a GM and true electric.

It's nice looking if they stick to the concept look and don't soften it for production. As far as fuel mileage, meaningless to me. I'm sick of hearing about it.

The Volt does look pretty sweet, but I gotta have a convertable.

I don't baby mine at all either... I'm guessing you don't have as much stop and go as me around your town... I'm in LA... there's a stop sign or signal at every intersection in this town.

I bought the first Prius in NC (1st gen). I still have it and not a problem with it since I bought it. I can't imagine it being a sports car though. I wuodl imagine if they did make a sports car application the torque would be amazing, but it would probably be available only in an "autostick" config. The insight was a manual, but honda sets the hybrid up differently then toyota. Toyota has the engine and electric motor working together, but Honda has the electric engine set up only for a small assist on occassion. On the toyota, you actually take off in all electric if you don't gun it. The honda always uses the engine. I can't imagine this working on a manual tranny sports car. Toyota's done more incredible things then that though, so I wouldn't put it past 'em. As far as this exact car being made for 35K, don't get your hopes up. They will get rid of the headlights, change some of the creases and folds, definitly change the interior, and maybe the fancy ceiling will make it into the final cut because that is part of the glitz of this prototype. The headlights will most likely be projection lights borrowed from the celica, rims will also be different - they always make their tires smaller on the actual final build. This would also tie in with the car being a hybrid. Al the hybrids have small wheels to strain the electric engine less on take offs. We may see this, but it will be VERY toned down, with smaller wheels, completely different interior, and minus the fancy hood/hybrid thing that pokes through the hood. I would definitly have to go by and take a look at one if they build anything like it though....

Ya know, I don't think you've ever contributed anything to a discussion on this forum that actually was productive in any way/shape/or form. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong... but has this Caramel Guy ever added anything of any value to any disussion here?... and who else is sick of that ridiculous signature?... sorry for my digression... I was simply stating an opinion regarding driving vehicles that get less than 30 MPG.... am I out of line on this?

I can understand both sides of the issue. I love the environment and my sports cars. Maybe that's why I've been looking at this car too. Caramel is upset because he does not want to give up performance. You are upset because you know the environment is shared and the oil/gas is limited. Vehicles lilke SUVs suck up twice the gas to do the same thing a camry wagon does, 4 times the gas a Prius does. When vehicles begin to mix performance with gas savings and less emissions, you both will be happy. The only downer for us with this vehicle may be that it will only be available in an auotstick.....come on manual tranny!

I think it is dangerous when you start judging people because they choose to drive a car that has less than 30mpg. I'm not even sure how it can be politically irresponsible. I'm not even sure I could define the term "politically irresponsible"

I'll look for higher MPG cars when I buy another sedan, but until then I'll make do with what I have.

Some environmental group labeled the RL as a green car. The RLs get much better mileage than the base Sky's.

What I think is responsible is supporting clean air legislation within reason and supporting international lobbying to get Countries like China who pollute so much, to get in line.

But, right now, I'm hoping that when I get enough wealth to afford a Lamborghini Diablo, that I can legally drive it.

The Lexus is being built, it will be the pace car for the F-1 Japaneese Gran Prix. $150,000 isn't bad for a carbon fiber car.

I wish Toyota would produce a hybrid sports car, these gas prices in San Diego are PAINFUL.

If GM makes the Volt they will absolutly kill Toyota in Hybrid sales. I hope its not just vaporware.
