hit the wrong button

Sorry about that the finger slipped and hit the enter button I guess. Anyway, I took some video and photos. and keep watching them over over and over. I put down a $1000 deposit to be the first in Greensboro with a sky, but I am still wanting the performance of the redline as long as the price is low and the looks aren't changed to much. I lik the sky as it is. Anyone heard anything about the redline other then 2.0 turbo or 2.2 turbo? I know there is supposed to be a spoiler in the rear and twin exhaust(saw it on the calendar) but the front end is still a mystery. They already have spy shot of the solstice FE, why not the sky? Anyone heard anything about price. The dealer kept telling me the 2.4 engine would be around 25k loaded, but I reallly want the turbo.

Wow, I have absolutely no clue why you'd say the Solstice was designed for the female crowd. Especially since there's a far more active female crowd here then the Solstice site.

I'd say that's true about more females over here. I think it's not so much the car as it is the parent - I'd say Ponntiac with their Firebird Trans Ams and
so forth was always more male oriented, whereas Saturn, with their
compact, reliable cars and no haggling policy was always more female
oriented. It would be interesting to test this hypothesis by looking at gender
ownership data of the two brands. As for the cars themselves, they always talk about curvy cars being more oriented towards males, which would be the Solstice. I considered the Miata to be a woman's car from day one, while
a curvy car like the Austin-Healy I would always classify as a man's car.

While I realize the source is who it is, I've got some small rumor mill stuff.

I registered to enter the drawing for the right to buy one of the two first Sky's to hit our local dealership. The guy would registered me was obviously reading off of a printed sheet the options and what they were. He stated clearly that there would be a turbo version in late 2007. This was just after his interior option schpeil and just before he mentioned the automatic transmission.

"In late 2007 model year a turbo engine option will be availible." ~ Saturn Dealership Employee.

That's the tag line, from Saturn, from GM, from Employees. The only problem is interpritation. Does that mean Spetember 06? or does it mean April 07? It's probably intentionally vague.

If you stand them side by side without badging and polled people I bet the Solstice would bechosen by more women than men. The edgy look on the SKY just doesn't do it for a lot of females.

I've done my very own unscientific study (asked all the women I know), only one liked the SKY over the Solstice.

I HAVE NEVER driven anything with a 4cyl. compact car. AND I DROVE a 79 Trans AM with a 302, bought a 400 engine from a earlier Firebird ( it had been customized)and put that in it. Also still have my 67 Impala Ragtop (irmine white), Ford F250 with a 460 engine.

IT IS ABOUT THIS CAR MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT

You guys have to get it through your heads that woman love the cars you think they hate.

Common guys. Stop bashing the other cars, Chick cars, yes some people classify vehicles that way, but I've heard plenty of people Say Preludes are chick cars, does that make me want to get rid of it, no I love my prelude. yes I do like the Sky more than the solstice but the solstice is a sexy car in person expecially, I saw my first one 3 weeks ago, mmm, it was at a mazda thing, it was funny how the mazda guys were all bashing it.

I love how Mazda guys bash everything in sight of their cars while they drive an overgrown tic-tac.

Wow ladies...take offense....

Maybe some of the women or the woman who replied her surprise to my comment concerning the looks of the solstice live in different parts of the US then I do. I didn't mean any offense, but the Sky has a less masculine name and a more masculine look. Edges tend to make me think rugged, curves make me think soft and cute. If a car is curvascious it has to have a lean look to it, and the FE has to come together to look sleek. The FE of the Solstice looks too soft for me. The Solstice doesn't have a soft place on it. I make y comparison by looking at the Mazda Mx-5, or should I say Miata. Despite the rounded appearance of the car this car was too soft for me and most males because it looked very soft and rounded at all ends. This is why females bought this vehicle and not males(mostly). Because of this, Mazda is now dropping the "Miata" name and going only with the MX-5 name to appeal to the males. I am sure there are some brutish females out there who will like the Sky. I think they left the door open with the name, which should have been a number or some other less soft sounding name.

I intend on finding a way to rebadge mine as a Skyfire. Or something of that ilk.

Maybe I completely misunderstood this post. Did you just:
  1. Tell the ladies on the forum to take offense,
  2. Say you meant no offense,
  3. And in closing call women who like the Sky brutish, presumably causing offense?
I look forward to their replies.

In Response:

No, I:
1. Sarcastically said "take offense, why dontcha"
2. Said I did not mean any offense in the original letter
3. Begrudgingly, left a "stab" at whomever was looking for one

So you were almost correct.

Whats in a name?

I agree, Skyfire or something would have been better then sky. I think that GM may have made a cross-gendered name (Sky) for a two seater because the competition (Miata) seemed to have the same. Fortunately, the word sky still looks good on the rear bumper. "Miata" just doesn't seem to have any kick to it. Even if the thing does handle like a go cart and have an enjoyable ride, "Miata" sounds too plush and fun.
