TS, JohnWR, and anyone who had the passenger sensor mat fail on their Sky/Solstice

I have been talking with a reporter who covered the ignition switch recall heavily back in 2014 and is wanting to do a story on our PPS mat recall because, as he put it "it's interesting GM and NHTSA both missed discovering this on their own." He would like to talk to anyone who played a big roll in this recall as well as anyone who had the mat fail and was upset GM wasn't recalling the part.

@TomatoSoup, without you tearing apart that mat and finding the problem...trying to fix it...I think you are one who should talk to him if you want to get involved.

@JohnWR, seeing all the work you put forth to build a spoof device because of GM's lack of effort, I think you'd be good for him to talk to as well.

@DaveOC, you helped get the production numbers and he may want to talk to you as to what motivated you in helping out too.

I may be missing others who helped but feel free to contact me if you would like me to forward your information.

I know there have been tons of people who have had this issue and were upset about GM not doing what was right and issuing the recall. He wants to talk to some of you too.

If you are willing to talk to him, DO NOT POST YOUR CONTACT INFO IN THIS THREAD. Send me a private message with the information (Name, Phone, and/or email) and I will forward it to him. You can leave a note here letting me know you sent me a message if you wish.

For those not wanting to be interviewed, I totally understand. Not everyone wants to "get involved". LOL

Got it sir and forwarded. Thank you. I figured you were a bit busy and hence why I wasn't hearing from you. LOL

I'm sure he'll want to talk to you about your opinion on GM's action to this problem since you had a mat fail...

I just sent you a message w/ my info. I haven't done diddly in terms of helping w/ the recall but I'll be thrilled to express my disapproval at how needlessly and likely intentionally over expensive these things are vs how reliable they are.

If you had a failure they'd want to talk to you. I thought you had.

What I meant was that I haven't done all the research and managed the PR presence you guys have but I'm totally the not-so-proud owner of a failed one. I just work too damn much to get heavily involved.

The dead one is still installed and I wasn't intending to get it replaced considering the cost and likelihood that it'd just happen again.

I was waiting on the override module someone on this forum had developed and was preparing for distribution so I could run a switch to it and just manually toggle it. That seat has only been sat on maybe 10 times since I bought the car used in 2010. Yet another reason it failing is beyond inexcusable.

It may be worth mentioning that I haven't even asked for a replacement but I see no reason they would just give me a 500 dollar part. Besides the only dealership particularly nearby and I had a spat not too long ago and I decided there was probably no reason to appeal to anybody's humanity considering the lack of it I observed in our dealings. I wouldn't trust them near my vehicle anyway after they demonstrated complete ineptitude, ripped me off and then tried to rip me off even more. We nearly went to court so I could get my car back but ultimately I caved as I just had too much going on at the time to fight a mechanic lien.

You are the type of owner the reporter would love to talk to! You represent the folks those of us who did the work wanted to help.

Thanks, Robo. Of course the picture was taken carefully to hide the cobbled-together parts!

Will be stoked to add one of these badboys to my list of screw-you-GM parts someday. I would honestly prefer it to replacing the sensor for a number of reasons, especially if GM's idea of fixing the problem is giving us new identical sensors. I'll just find a way to break the new one and then I'll be right back here again whereas I can buy one of these and likely be set for the duration I intend to keep the car.

Update: Also aftermarket seat support!
