if you look at the performance numbers, they are so close that just a small slip by one driver or the other could change the results... besides all the TRACK tests i have seen comparing the Solstice and the MX-5 the times have been very close or the solstice has been faster, i have not seen any track testing of the Sky as of yet... but I have driven mine on the Bristol Motor Speedway and the Tail of the Dragon... and several other challenging roads and have not come close to exceeding the limits of this car...
Yes, let's look at the 2.0 liter Mazda motor which has more hp than the 2.4 liter Solstice/Sky motor, and has to carry around 450-500 less pounds around.

You can't exceed the limits of your car because it's underpowered.

Even the Redline Sky is toast compared to a boosted Miata.

is that motor in the MX=5? NO . so why not?..so you are comparing apples and oranges...
and you still have no clue.... you better do a little more real world testing instead of believing what you read in magazines....the MX-5 has no boosted motor.. so that is a non argument...
It is not underpowered , I have never used all it's available power yet... you were never with me so how do you know if that is the reason...
if the Sky is underpowered so is the MX-5 it has less horspower and Torque than the Sky does...

Let's hope the Sky isn't as cheap as the Solstice.....

TO THE POINT
What’s New? Pontiac produces one of the most compelling automobiles of our time, an affordable roadster that goes head-to-head with the iconic Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Selling Points: Gorgeous styling, terrific handling, made in the U.S.A.
Deal Breakers: Unrefined powertrain, cheap interior materials, useless trunk
Our Advice: If you’ve gotta be the first on your block with a new 2006 Pontiac Solstice, pay the premium and buy now. If you want better performance, wait a year for the supercharged Solstice GT. If you want refinement and pure, unbridled joy behind the wheel, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is still the roadster of choice.

http://www.autosite.com/content/shar...cle_id_int/876

Quality General Motors needs to upgrade the quality of the Solstice’s interior plastics, tack on another $500 to the sticker price to cover the cost, and forget about selling this car for less than twenty grand.

If there’s anything about the 2006 Pontiac Solstice that requires immediate resolution by GM, it’s quality – and that includes the unrefined engine and clunky manual transmission. From materials to construction, the Solstice needs improvement in these areas to remain a desirable and viable product for years to come.

Inside, the materials look OK at a glance, but the hard plastic surfaces come straight out of the GM pickup truck school of interior design. Our Cool (silver) over Ebony test car’s black plastic interior panels were obviously cheap. The gray-stitched leather offset this a bit, as did the dark gray metallic dash insert with its rubbery surface feel. And the chrome accents throughout the cabin were nice, too, if you don’t mind that they twinkle in the sunlight. But we would like to see more extensive use of soft-touch, matte-finish materials and real aluminum trim inside this ride – even if the price tag needs to rise by a few hundred bucks.

And those materials need to be solidly affixed to their moorings. Our test Solstice featured a loose gauge binnacle and center console plastic that could be lifted up from the floor just like in an old Chevy Camaro. Every cupholder tray is flimsy, and the A-pillar trim is squeezable. True, most of the Solstice’s bits and pieces don’t wiggle around much and fit together pretty well, but we’d like it if they didn’t wiggle around at all.

Exterior build quality on our test car was not good. We found inconsistent fits for the fascias, the rubber trim on the passenger door, and both the headlights and taillights. The front left plastic wheel well liner sagged, and we spotted paint runs on the edges of the hood. To tackle its main competitor, the Mazda MX-5 Miata, a car lauded by “Consumer Reports” as one of the most reliable vehicles on the market, Pontiac will need to pay more attention to the details.

You drive a fat slow reincarnation of the Fiero.

My car does 0-60 nearly 3 seconds faster than your tub, and has more wheel horsepower than a Redline has at the crank.

It's also around 700 pounds lighter......

But I'm sure yours looks great in my rear view mirror.

It started off simply as a comparison and now is blown way out of proportion. The truth is we (the Sky owners and soon to be's), bought this car for many reasons. Regardless of your opinion, I believe most of us think the Miata is just BLAH. Not that it's a bad car.... It's just bland. Sooo......If your car gets to its destination 3 seconds faster than mine.... whoopty doo! It may be longer than that because of all the staring at this Beautiful machine we call a Sky. We may have to stop and answer some questions.... so Rabbit.... take off now. We'll see ya....

Sky Owners =

Miata Owners =

Just what we need, Sky/Sol vs Miata thread #0459864325097812340871249867

JLB, I am all for having a Miata fan bring over the facts and keep everyone honest about the two cars. Yes, the Miata has some advantages. Yes, the Solstice and Sky does. (How does the Sol have any more plastic than either of the other two anyway?)

However, you have moved from that to just trying to stir up and cause trouble. For that and name calling (calling a member a poseur for instance) you have been issued a temporary ban. If you re-register under another screen name during this period of time you will be permanently banned. When you registered, you also agreed to the terms of this forum which also state that re-registering is grounds for possible legal action as well. So do not so this, and sit out the period of time-out.
