Any News on a Saturn Pick Up

My Sky is the 4th Saturn for the Wife and I. When we got married and she had an 1996 Saturn Station Wagon. In 2003 we bought Our first New Saturn, a VUE. We kept it for 3 years during which she got a 2005 Ford Ranger because she always wanted a pickup truck. On September 16th 2006 I traded the VUE for a 2006 ION. I had seen the Sky and decided in my 47 years, this was the car I had to own. I ordered on July 8th 2006 and got it in December 19th 2006. All that to show the dedication we have to Saturn. My question, because the Wife wants a Saturn but doesn't want to give up a truck... When is Saturn planning to produce a pick up? Thanks for being patient through the rambles,

I remember the talk about a Saturn P/U a bit ago... would have been interesting. A polymer panel P/U to take the abuse of work!?!?!? What better?!?!?

Saturn Pickup Truck
SaturnFans.com • September 12, 2000
While arguably closely related to the rumored Saturn SUT, the company is expected to offer a pickup truck version its upcoming SUV for the 2004 model year. However, Saturn says that it has not received official approval for such a product. Pickuptruck.com recently ran a story on the rumored vehicle, and also published a sketch of what it might look like.

Here is an excerpt from their report:

"The Saturn pickup truck, code-named GMT316 according to sources, has not yet been approved and is still a long-shot for production. If given the greenlight the truck would probably not appear until at least 2005. Tom Wilkinson, a spokesman for Saturn, confirmed that Saturn is looking at many different options right now beyond the SUV using the Theta platform."

Saturn Pickup Truck Rising?

Saturn is expected to unveil a new, compact SUV in October at the South Florida International Auto Show in Miami. The SUV's platform, known internally as Theta, will initially be unique to Saturn and is expected to spawn several other variants including a rumored small pickup truck.

The Saturn pickup truck, code-named GMT316 according to sources, has not yet been approved and is still a long-shot for production. If given the greenlight the truck would probably not appear until at least 2005. Tom Wilkinson, a spokesman for Saturn, confirmed that Saturn is looking at many different options right now beyond the SUV using the Theta platform.

The Saturn pickup (the Saturn P-Series?) would most likely arrive powered by GM's 3.0-liter V6 mated to an automatic transmission or the SUV's standard 2.2-liter I4 which uses a continuously variable transmission.

The days of each GM brand offering a vehicle for everyone are over with. No longer will you find SUVs and Crossovers in every division (look at Buick and Pontiac for proof). Chevy & GMC will cover the pickup end of GM's business, with Hummer offering SUTs (Sport Utility Trucks) in addition to their SUV line.

BTW, word has it that Hummer will be offering a more pickup-like SUT with the H3 line. If she must have a small pickup and wants to replace her Ranger, why not look at the GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado? Of course the all-new for 2007 full-size pickups (GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado) are kightyears ahead of the Ranger. Plus you get to remain in the "GM family" this way.
