It was bound to happen

You know with the success of the Turbo Kappas GM wasn't going to stop there... I came across this just a few minutes ago. After reading the article I feel like GM just cheapened our Kappas! Take a look!

I do not feel cheated. Our cars still look the way they do.

An engine that cranks 260hp, and still pulls in 30+ mpg highway...
That engine should be in every car they sell.

An early Redline made right after the turbo shutdown, I have powerlocks, but no power seat.
21,000 Miles (as of June 2008). No Issues!

I do not feel that this cheapens the Sky at all. If anything, maybe this will help the aftermarket get on the ball and start making more mods.

I also totally disagree with your statement and IMO nothing can be further from the truth. I also echo what others are saying & maybe now, the more cars that use that engine, the more "refine" it will become AND less buggy for sure--

+1. That was the first thing I thought. The more cars this engine goes into, the better hope for aftermarket support growth. Just look at honda's and think about the way they're aftermarket has grown because of the use of the same engines even throughout the world. With the LNF going into the Cobalt AND HHR, i only see good things. Believe it or not, this will actually help with sales of the Balt SS/TC as well because potential buyers will have the option of modifying the second they get the car because of the aftermarket support that's been built before the Balt's release.

Even with the same engine...

The Cobalts & HHRs will still be FWD, which makes them completely different vehicles. I do feel they will both be nice, each with their own worths.

The Cobalt will certainly be trying to go head-to-head against imports, like the Civic, and attracting some from the "Fast and The Furious" crowd. That should benefit those of us looking for the aftermarket to really open up with go-fast parts.

I'm interested in the HHR Panel SS that's scheduled for limited release in '09. Together, HHR models already have the potential to appeal to a surprisingly wide variety of target market segments. I've had clients for them ranging from parents looking for vehicles for their children, those looking for economical commuter vehicles that aren't standard fare, classic car buffs who own 1940s era panel trucks looking for something reminiscent of that style, to business owners looking for light duty commercial vehicles they can advertise on. However, they do not offer any ind of competition to the Kappa platform.

I see these vehicles being a boon for GM, across the board, that will be good for current & future Solstice/Sky owners/enthusiasts.

I feel more confident in choosing the Redline due to this. GM must be convinced that reliability and performance issues with this powerplant are minimal if they're going to put more of them on the streets.

i agree with the fact that this will HELP the aftermarket situation with our cars. Now that the LNF engine will be in a more "mass produced" vehicle, tuners and aftermarket companies will begin to support it. THANK GOD.

This will ensure GM backing this engine for years to come and that tons of aftermarket people will be producing goodies for this engine.

There is a pretty big TUNER following of the Cobalt!

I too think this is a good thing. Owning an 06 Ion Red Line, what Chevy is doing with the Cobalt brings it up to the testing done with the Red Lines originally. The Ion was tested at 260hp but 'detuned' for the market due to fears of high insurance costs and gas mileage.

The Kappas have their own identity and I agree with others that GM using this engine in others shows their commitment to it and will increase its realiability and support.
