I believe an electric roof option on the kappa platform was considered. The weight adjustment to the entire car would have to be significant though. A magnesium top, carbon fiber deck lid and hood would be needed to keep the weight down as you add all the electronics needed to power the top up and down. Yes, this can be done with today's technology and probably just as fast as the current process of hydroforming these parts. The problem though, instead of buying a $20k-$25k car you would be paying $30k-$35k for the car.

GM wants to get the ball rolling and get the car in the hands of the buyers at an affordable price to start. After few years when the buying starts to slow then you introduce the cool features like electric roof, V6 or V8 powerplants, electronic gizmos. Just look at how the Corvette has developed, heck look at what Mazda has done to the Miata over the past 14 years as an example.

I was considering a new C6 Corvette over the Sky. The problem I have with the new Corvette is all the electronics in your face. The pure sports car feeling was replaced by a bunch techno junkies wanting to keep up with Munich engineers.

oh I wasn't saying I wanted an electric roof. I've finally come to terms with that. I'm talking about the way the Trunk hinges. the roof goes in but it hinges both ways so you can open the trunk from the back. if you look a the tigra I think its called. it hinges both ways.
