Apocalypto

Has anyone else seen this?

It is GREAT...I have always been very interested in the Aztec/Maya/Toltec cultures and this movie does a great job at bringing them to life.

I would have to say that I think it is the best movie of the year.

I would not want to see this nor will I ever due to Gibson's comments. I can't even watch Seinfeld anymore either. Thanks a lot Mr Richards!

Great, just when I was really getting to dislike Gibson, your telling me (and others) that this really is a great movie.....thanks..... In truth I too have admired and wondered about a people that could develop binary math, calculate time distance and the paths of the solar system, could in turn disapear in such a fashion.....One time years ago, to hell and gone down south of Cancun, I saw what was a 'gliph' of what was a Myan governmental body's inventory of stores. Grain, corn, other items....well the math used to calculate the combinations and represent the units and totals of each item was a form of binary...blew me away.

I'll get it on Netflix...I'm a huge movie fan, but I can't give Mel a pass for what he said.

I saw it last week and I enjoyed it as well.
It was beautifully shot with some great scenery and set pieces, well acted, and the pacing/action was intense!
Also, I just got back from a cruise to Mexico and I visited the Mayan ruins of Chinchen Itza, so I could totally relate to the film.
The pyramids & architecture of the ruins were amazing.
Will we ever find out what happened to the mysterious Mayan society? Will this movie answer some of those questions? Will Mel Gibson win an award for this one? Maybe and maybe not, but it does bring you in to a different place, culture, and back to another time which is what a great story does.

I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.

Staying on thread about the movie ..

I have been to Mexico and the ruins, read books on the culture and like movies in general, he enhanced it some .. but to his credit .. he did stay pretty accurate. Fast action, but very violate.
Sad what us humans have done, and still do, to our fellow humans to this day.

Five stars ... but sad.

Not to start something, but Gibson was supposedly plastered. Who knows what context he meant it in, he could have said it as sarcasm. I'm not trying to make the guy out to be a saint, but it never was very clear what he said, and then, on top of that he was slam drunk. I wonder what some of us would say slam drunk, not everyone is a happy drunk.....

The media sure had a good time with his apology though, I have yet to see or hear anything that was convincing enough to say that Gibson is anti-Jew. I'm not siding with Gibson, I;m just trying to be fair to someone who was pulled over drunk, and said things that he probably does not even remember saying....

Thought it was great. My wife had to close her eyes at some of the bloodier scenes. Positives--Lots of violence, lots of tension. Negatives--lots of running through the jungle with nothing else happening, and a complete lack of gratuitous sex.
