Do You Remeber?

I was just thinking about a way for us to pass the time, and also test some of us chronologically challenged members of nostalgic things. This is for all to participate in, I will start:

Do you remember before there was rock n roll? I do

Does anyone else remember those 45 rpm record players you install below the dash in your lead sled? Eight Tracks? Drive In Movies? Continental Kits? Lakes Pipes?

What were you doing the day the music died? Holley/Valens/Big Bopper died in plane crash? I was laying across my bed building a model car when I heard the sad news on my 6 transistor radio.

These are a few of my memories, this may be kinda dumb to do I don't know.
I just thought I would throw it out there.

I remember going to my first drive-in movie! I had to find one online, then drive two and a half hours to get there. Okay, so it was a month ago.

I do remember my sixth grade teacher coming into the classroom crying when the Challenger exploded. And some of the jokes. And getting in a lot of trouble for telling one at dinner that night.

For some reason I thought of the cartoons.

AstroBoy - and his annoying squeaky boots.

Toys
Also the toy cars that you used to wind up and run them in to the wall and it would fly into pieces. Then you would put them back together and do it again.

How about when you bought Lego by the number of pieces and it was up to you to figure out what to build with them.

toys i had

remember the Varoom racer?
remember the slogan, "if it's from Mattell It's Swell"
remember Western flyer wagons and bicycles, along with sleds
remember the $1.00 AMT model cars
remember when the frisbee came out it looked like a actual flying saucer with the port windows and the names of all the planets on the top side listed..
remember the origonal Hula Hoop
remember when remote control toys just had a string attached you guided them around with...
remember "Silly Puddy"
remember the "Rat Fink" Toys

and from the more serious side of life.
remember when a normal car came with no air conditioning, no heater, no power windows, no power brakes no radio even AM and even the oil filter was optional?
remember 3" wide white wall nylon corded tires?
remember TV and radio tubes and going to the drug store to check them yourself.
remember when nobody had ever heard of a transistor, or integrated circuit and a computer was something from science fiction and called a mechanical brain
remember Soda Fountians at the drug store?
remember, to get high was how high you can jump, when you never heard a bad word on TV or radio?
remember when teachers were allowed to spank their students?
remember when PARENTS were allowed to spank thier kids using a belt or any other means handy...
remember when the "Metric system" was something only foreigners used and it was stupid...
remember, and this is the BIG one to me... When MADE IN THE USA was something to be proud of and MADE IN JAPAN was a Joke?

I could go on and on...

Memories, how sweet they are. Here's one: Cardboard appliance boxes - a whole lot of fun and no batteries required!!! Sodas were made with sugar not corn syrup, soda fountains?

How about antique cars that could be bought for under a $100 and comic books that sold for .10 cents and were worth nothing!

Yea, but you didn't need a lot of money to have a good time. No air conditioning, leaded paint, no childproof anything

Good Old Days

I can remember going to my cousins to spend the day. We would walk down the road to the nearest gas station and buy a gallon of gas for less than a dollar and then ride his gocart all day! No worries, no responsibilities, just havin' fun.

Gas was 25 cents a gallon at the Beeline gas station and Texaco had "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star!" slogan.
Lincoln Logs were in and so were Erector Sets
Dad drove a Kaiser
"Car"toons was 10 or 15 cents
Baseball cards were a nickle and I put them on my bike spokes
We had a real soda fountain at the drug store
Ice Cream was a dime
50 cent pieces had ben franklin on them
Yellowstone park was the place to go!
Nobody had heard of Viet Nam
Chet Huntley/David Brinkley and Walter Cronkite were the big newscasters
The Penny theater was a nickle to go and see in the summertime
"Flubber"
Superballs were the newest thing

At the risk of being called a whippersnapper...

WOW! You guys are older than dirt! ha ha ha

The only thing on that list that I remember is the challenger exploding...I faked sick that day so I could stay home and watch it, so I saw it live. Oh yeah, don't we have another bird up there now? Sending a quick prayer for a safe return for them!

Going down to the corner Gulf SERVICE station on a Sunday afternoon to learn how to ride my bike...it was closed on Sunday. Gas was $0.39 and I could mow a lot of lawns with a gallon of gas and I only charged $5.00 a lawn...front and back.
