Steve, it is sad to say that your kitties will most likely pass long before you do. There are pet cremation services that you can use, just be sure to request in your Will that you would like your "kids" remains to be buried with you at the appropriate time.

I lost my best buddy Mungo last fall. My vet arranged for him to be cremated, and they returned him to me in a lovely carved wooden box with an engraved nameplate on it. He rests for now on my nightstand in my bedroom, and will stay with me for as long as I am around, at least.

Like Kimberly, he was with me for most of my adult life and was my best friend ever. He was diabetic for the last 4 or 5 years of his life, so I understand the lengths Kimberly went to over the years to extend her baby's life regardless of the cost. I myself spent many thousands of dollars on his care, between the twice a day insulin injections, blood and diagnostic tests, several long term stays at the Veterinary ER hospital, etc.

Kimberly, having gone through a similar situation, I feel your pain. It was a difficult realization for me when I saw my Mungo valiantly struggle to stay by my side when life had become endless pain and effort for him. I finally had to decide that the selfless, loving thing to do was to let him go to a better place where he would be free of pain and suffering. I hope you to can come to the same realization, and know that Bailey loved you for everything you were to him, and that he is in a better place now.

now kim this is not trying to stir the waters or start a fight, because i know you feel bad... but honestly looking at this from a standpoint of say an uncle who died and had his write up in the paper, next to a cat, would apply that a cat is just as important as my uncle?? i would be appalled to see an animal next to my recently deciesed family members obit... I think there could be something separate for animals, but I dont believe its fair to the acutal people who died... if this offends anyone...... sorry? but I'm inititled to my opinion and thats the other side of the story

i agree I'm a dog lover as well ...but i'd hate for my obituary to be sandwiched in between rover and spike. I think a good compromise would be small pet obituary section ....of course being in a capitalistic country...for a small fee...

Every parents fear. I am so sorry you had to endure a loss of a child. I have lost pets, relatives...But could never, ever, imagine loosing a child. Thank you for sharing.

I have been a member of this forum for about a year and a half, and like most members here enjoy talking and sharing experiences about our love of our Skys, Sols and other cars. Many of us belong to many of the other forums out there that were started for the same reason this one was, but I have found this one to be by far the most popular not only because of our passion for our cars, but for the interaction and friendship we have with members who share their most personal parts of their lives happy or tragic. We are more then members, we are a family. On a lot of the other sites, rules of etiquette and decency are lax or non-existent and for that reason, I don’t visit them very much. Yesterday I was appalled and angered by a clearly vicious attack on a member who after having many tragedies lately lost a much love member of her life. Some people would say It’s just a dog, but to anyone who has one knows there is no tragedy to compare to losing a beloved companion that give so much love without anymore expectation then a loving word, smile or caress. The posting was in the proper forum of off topic so that should not have been an issue. If someone had an issue they should have took it to the Frontier or send a PM. If my posting this offends anyone then put me on your ignore list which is what I did to the member in question.

Thank you RedSkyMan, for saying it the way it is. Kim was the first forum member I met, about a year ago on a run to Cocoa Beach, and I've considered her a friend ever since. She is a great person, and cares deeply about family, friends, and even this forum.

After reading some of the post here, I will not mention names, it is easy to see that there are some ignorant idiots who simply don't have a clue. I really feel sorry for them. If you do not like the subject of a thread do us all a favor and move on to the next thread. I read a lot of stuff that I don't like, but I have never attacked the writer as you have attacked Kim. And at a time when she is looking for love and support from her "on line" family. Shame on you. I only hope that you never in your miserable life have a year like Kim has had this past year. And if you do, please do not come here looking for understanding or support.

Kim, better days are ahead. I promise you. Each morning the sun will come up, as it always does, and life will go on. I understand your pain, I've been there too. You will never forget your beloved Bailey, but the pain of your loss will ease, even though your memorles of him will never fade. Just remember that apart from a few jerks on here, we all care about you.

Kim, sorry for your loss....I do not look forward to that day, dogs are so much more than just "pets". I think it is a tiny bit over the top to call the news, but I admire your conviction and do not fault you for being so strong on something you believe in. As they say, "you go girl".

It is really nice to see other papers offering you their obits. I agree, Pets should have a section for rescue, lost & found and Obituaries in all papers. You have my vote!

Do not wait too long to go out and get yourself another great companion, life is too short to grieve too long! I hope your pain fades fast

2 Questions.
Do dogs need us? Do we need dogs? YES and YES.

There is nothing more to say.

Sorry...but it's just not a good idea to put PET obits with PEOPLE obits... And I don't think most people would disagree.....

In my lifetime I have lot several beloved pets but never...never once even thought they deserved to be next to someones mother who had just died... ...that's just insane.....

I have to agree with Cindy. A family friends actual child just passed away. To see a pet obit next to her's in the paper would just be absurd.
No matter how much I love and have loved my pets, they are still luxuries and do not deserve the same respect as humans.

Having lost two dogs that were very dear to me I understand grieving at the passing of a beloved pet. A pet obituary section seems like a fine idea for a newspaper to me and if it's an important issue to you I can even understand boycotting a paper if they don't have such a section. I’m glad you found papers interested in running your pet’s obituary, but the idea of a lawsuit to force someone to do so as reported in the news story is completely inappropriate and seems like something that would get a lawyer fined for misconduct. But no matter how loved it is a dog is an animal and equating the loss of any pet to the loss of a child or any other human being is just wrong.

Wow, where do I begin.

Kimberly, I am so sorry for your loss and then aggrivation with the newspaper's insensitivity.

Twirp, it was well said by Cerberus. This site brings us together around the Sky, but we love each other and try to hear each other out as a family. I don't always enjoy the things that the others do, I don't always believe the things they believe in: but I try my best to respect their interests and enjoy them through the other member's eyes.

Finally, I currently have two dogs, one cat, and a box turtle. I have been involved in the wildlife federation since I was old enough to hold a baby racoon. I have rehabilitated countless animals and would protect them with my life. Before 5/21/08, I called them my children, and barked at anyone who said otherwise. On 5/21/08, I had a baby boy. It took this experience to know the difference. Though I value both lives, there is no comparison. If something happened to my boy and my dog, I would not want them in the same obituary. My son is a human representation of my wife and myself. As much as I love my dogs, there is no comparison. I know that when this happens for you, you will see what I'm talking about. I have brought uncountable numbers of baby animals back from the brink of death, one that I kept. I have spent nights awake watching over the life of a dying baby duck, stirring a baby racoon whose heart kept stopping from malnurishment, etc: but my boy is my boy.

We all need to see that everyone puts their priorities in different places, this is what makes us interesting. I respect Kimberly's interest in and love for her dog. She was not looking for judgement, she was looking for simpathy. TWIRP: there are better ways to communicate disagreement, and better timing as well.

My prayers are with you Kimberly.
