Orange and Maroon Effect - Friday, April 20

Virginia Tech family members across the country have united to declare this Friday, April 20th, an "Orange and Maroon Effect" day to honor those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday, and to show support for Virginia Tech students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and friends. "Orange and Maroon Effect" was born several years ago as an invitation to Tech fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia Tech athletic events. We invite everyone from all over the country to be a part of the Virginia Tech family this Friday, to wear orange and maroon to support the families of those who were lost, and to support the school and community we all love so much.

Hope all of you will join me in wearing orange/maroon on Friday!

Since both of our sons graduated from there, I have numerous VT shirts and hats. You can bet I will be wearing them on Friday!

A show of support and solidarity...

Virginia Governor Kaine has declared Friday, April 20th as the day to show support for the Virginia Tech community. Please show your support by using tape to make a VT on the back window of you car.

Use blue painters tape if you are worried about getting the tape off later.

Please pass the word and thank you in advance for your support.

I will find something, don't have much in those colors...

One thing I think about daily since the event is the VT Rescue Squad.

A lot of people take emergency personnel for granted... that if they are called they will be there. While this is most definitely true, who is it that shows up?

On a lot of campuses nationwide, there are EMS agencies run by student volunteers and not only for the students but everyone on the campus.

Not only does Virginia Tech have that... they have one of the best. With two Advanced Life Support ambulances, a 1st Response vehicle and a Mass Casualty Incident trailer with supplies for 30 victims.

As a member of a similarly equiped campus based ambulance service at Binghamton University, I applaud VT Rescue for their professional service to their campus.

I agree with you so much! During all of this, I thought so much about the caregivers..

I have a friend who is an EMT. he is not a VT EMT. The killings took place
around 9:45 AM on Monday. At 10:30 PM, they were still removing bodies
from the building. My EMT friend said some of his colleagues were bothered
most that night hearing all the deceased students' cell phones ringing,
knowing it was probably calls from the parents wanting to know if everything
were ok. It must have been so difficult for these people to perform their duties.

I can only imagine how the building must look inside and having to deal with
the bodies of 31 people brutally shot to death.

"We are Virginia Tech".... "We will prevail!!"...

Grammie, Michael wanted to wear VT colors today. He remembers you from the Kansas City caravan. Sent him off in a maroon hoodie with a V on the back. (Verona) but it was close enough...
