Outlook

My hubby went to pick up our Sky at the dealer last night (had it in for service - leaking diff). While he was waiting for them to bring the car around, he got a glimpse of the new Outlook SUV. It was the first one my dealer had gotten in...he really liked it. He said they did a really nice job with it...had a sticker of $29k.

LOL, I think that's just because of the camera angles. I haven't seen one in person yet, but it seems to be getting good reviews so far!

GM Puts Hold On Sales of Outlook and Acadia

Detroit Free Press

By Mark Phelan

Dec. 12, 2006

General Motors Corp. has told Saturn and GMC dealers not to sell the automaker's new Outlook and Acadia SUVs until it fixes a problem that could lead to extra engine vibration on cold days.

"This shouldn't have any impact on the perception of the vehicles' quality," said analyst Joe Phillippi of AutoTrends Consulting, based in Short Hills, N.J. "They know what the issue is, and the fact that they addressed it before any of the vehicles made it into the customers' hands is important."

Dealers should be able to start selling the six- to eight-passenger vehicles within a couple of days, GM spokeswoman Lynda Messina said. GM has delivered 1,000 to 1,500 of the SUVs to dealers but none has been sold yet, Messina said.

The total number of vehicles affected is about 3,000, including Acadias and Outlooks at the Lansing-area assembly plant that builds them.

The problem involves water building up in the vehicles' engine mounts and freezing in cold weather. The ice reduces the engine mounts' ability to absorb vibration and keep the passenger compartment quiet.

"It's in no way safety related," Messina said, adding that a service bulletin was to go out to dealers late Monday or this morning. "They should be able to make the changes at the dealerships and sales will begin this week."

One dealer didn't think the problems would affect sales.

"We received our first Outlook Friday night. It's awesome," said Nolan Baker, general manager of Saturn of Rivergate in Madison, Tenn., near Nashville. "Whatever needs to be fixed certainly doesn't affect its power, handling or quiet."

GM has high hopes for the Outlook and Acadia. The fuel-efficient family vehicles aim to challenge popular models such as the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot.

Got to see one in person last night. It was just a base model, with little-to-no extra goodies. Still looked fantastic! I really like the styling. Interior quality is just beautiful on these new Saturns!

The ones going to my retailer were on the delivery trucks, but turned around while on their way up, to get fixed at the plant. Hope to see one soon.

Well if it drives as nice as the Vue, then I know I'll like it. We got an '07 Vue as a loaner car earlier this week when my Sky was getting serviced. I have to say, that Vue was a nice vehicle. It handled well and was very responsive in both steering and the gas pedal. I was pleasantly impressed...and this was just a basic 4-cyl FWD Vue, with no bells or whistles. I can only imagine how much nicer the V6 AWD is.

The only reason there was a STOP SALE is because there was a concern about water collecting on top of the motor mount and if that water froze (as it would on a very cold winter morning) it would effectively "stiffen" that motor mount and possibly cause a little vibration that shouldn't be there.

They have instructions to make some "drain holes" to avoid water pooling on top of the mount... Very simple fix...

Regards,

BA...

I love our 4-cyl FWD VUE! And ours is a manual! It drives so smoothly, and I am very impressed at how well the little 144 hp engine gets us around town. I have not once been displeased with this car in the 2 months we've owned it so far.
