Shooting at Virginia Tech ... Please pray

They're saying there is at least one casualty. I just spoke to my son, he is ok, but obviously upset. They say that they have the gunman in custody, but are continuing the search in case there is more than one.

Please pray for all the kids and their families.

Now at least 22 fatalities.

Graduation ceremonies are less than a month away.

I don't even know what to say.

Pray for the Hokies...

For those that have passed away, those hurt, the families, and the police and EMTs that responded.

Touched base with all with kids there and they are OK - thank God.

There are few things in the world I love, and I put all of my heart and soul in to those few things. And those who know me understand that Virginia Tech is one of my greatest loves, and today is very sad day for that love, a day that will last in our hearts and minds and with me for the rest of my life.

You can't imagine how hard it is to see the buildings and campus I spent the past four years of my life splashed all over the news with the word "Massacre" scratched across the bottom of the screen... or hearing the President of the United States even speak the words "Virginia Tech" - It is a very surreal feeling and clearly a day that will never be forgotten in the Hokie nation or America for that matter. My prayers and wishes go out to all touched by this morning's events.

A quote that really moved me today...
"This is a tragedy in American history. So for today, forget any and all of your college affiliations. For today, we are all Hokies" - CNN

My cousin goes there (he's fine), it seems like a very nice school. So sorry to hear this. I found a maroon teeshirt and I'm gonna wear an orange polo over top of it tomorrow in honor of what happened at VT

It takes all kinds of people to make a nation. And in a republic you have more than your fair share of people who fit just outside the norm...Skip...

It didn't take long for the media to start the finger pointing and second-guessing. IMO, it only makes it worse. I wish they would just shut up.

Though it has been hard to find words to capture the sorrow of this tragedy and spirit of Virginia Tech and provide some comfort for the future of the school, Nikki Giovanni seemed to find just the right words at the convocation closing...

We are Virginia Tech
We are sad today
And we will be sad for quite awhile
We are not moving on
We are embracing our mourning

We are Virginia Tech
We are strong enough to stand tall tearlessly
We are brave enough to bend to cry
And sad enough to know we must laugh again

We are Virginia Tech
We do not understand this tragedy
We know we did nothing to deserve it
But neither does a child in Africa dying of AIDS
Neither do the invisible children walking the night away to avoid being captured by a rouge army
Neither does the baby elephant watching his community being devastated for ivory
Neither does the Mexican child looking for fresh water
Neither does an Appalachian infant killed in the middle of the night in his crib
In the home his father built with this own hands
Being run over by a boulder because the land was destabilized
No one deserves a tragedy

We are Virginia Tech
The Hokie nation embraces our own and reaches out with open heart and hands
To those who offer their hearts and minds
We are strong and brave and innocent and unafraid

We are better than what we think and not quite what we want to be
We are alive to the imagination and the possibility
We will continue to invent the future
Through our blood and tears and through all this sadness
We are the Hokies
We will prevail
We will prevail
We will prevail

We are Virginia Tech

Glad your son is OK. I know this was an awful time for you as it was for me, too. Both of our sons graduated from VT and I have been a Hokie all my life. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

A show of support and solidarity...

Virginia Governor Kaine has declared Friday, April 20th as the day to show support for the Virginia Tech community. Please show your support by using tape to make a VT on the back window of you car.

Use blue painters tape if you are worried about getting the tape off later.

Please pass the word and thank you in advance for your support.

R1chy

Some images from my trip down to Blacksburg. It was a beautiful drive and I was waved at by many cars but not for the Sky, but rather for my Hokie flare on my car - it was touching encouragement. Bridges and overpasses also bore well wishes and messages of hope, the whole world truly has been a shoulder to cry on.

We will prevail...
