Surgery On The 19th...

UGGG just when I was getting back into the swing of things of life here we go with this.....
Having Surgery On The 19th......
Current mood: anxious
Category: Life

Well here it is I am having surgery on the 19th Monday after next .

Just the facts, last Thursday I had an appointment with my Urologist/Oncologist & he said that it felt like both of my kidneys and bladder are inflammed, swollen & have dropped. Which is odd for someone my age. He said that he wanted me to have a CT, MRI, Xrays & Ultrasounds of all 3 ASAP. On Tuesday they called me & said my appointment was Wed at 10 at Florida Hospital. They made all the arrangements.

Yesterday I went for all of it I was there from 9:30 till after 1:30. They did 2 different IV's while I was there too.

The Doctor just called & said he wanted to schedule me for surgery right away. He only does 2 Monday's a month for Surgery which the next being the 19th. He said he was bumping someone out of a slot so he could put me there instead. I will be there from 7am and hopefully back at my home the same night if all goes well if not he will just admit me. He has me already registered at the hospital he said before he called as a possible over night so the room I go to that morning could stay open for me just incase. I will be completely put out etc, all the normal surgical things. He will be doing a Cystosopy & something else I didn't even pay attention to when he said. He is going to remove all the items he saw on the 3 organs & in. He is going to look at all 3 organs too while in there with a camera to check for anything else or any further damage that has been done and take care of whatever else needs to be done while he already has me opened up.

So those are the facts my friends. I think I could very well still be in shock but not sure. This is all happening very fast.

UPDATE (05/09/2008): Dr.'s Office just called & said I have to go to the hospital on the 15th to do all the blood work, labs, cultures & registration stuff. So I am doing that at 1pm that day Thursday the 15th.The Operating room is slated for me at 8:55am on the 19th.

MAY 15th SURGERY UPDATE: Just had all the Pre-Surgery stuff done at the hospital 1pm. Chart is all set up, blood work done, physical done, vitals done & the RN ran thru the surgery day of events. My insurance is really good & usually for surgery the co-pay is only $250 but because of all that he wants to do & use a special operating room my co-pay was $500 I had to pay today. So there goes $500 out of my checking account!

So I have to be at the hospital at 6:55am on Monday. 7:05 I should be in my room. 7:15am the RN will start an IV. 7:30 the Anesthesiologist will be in. 8:15am they are going to wheel me to the operating room & at 8:55 the surgery should be on it's way.

Depending on what all he does and finds while in there it will be a 2-6 hours once started. Then an hour in recovery, then back to my room. At that time he will decide also depending on what he did if I am going to stay the night or not.

You'll do fine...

Hi Kim,

The surgery will be completed without incident and you'll be back on your feet (and behind the wheel of your Sky) before you know it.

Keep a positive outlook and you should have a speedy recovery.

Take good care of yourself.

Pete

Hope everything goes well and may the luck of the SKYrish be with you!! I underwent a similar procedure late last year (2 weeks after I finally got my Sky - what a bummer it was!), but now my top is down and I'm footloose and fancy free!

As a 30+ year bladder cancer survivor, I understand your concerns. I get cysto's every year just to be sure nothing grows back that is not supposed to be there.

My prayers are for a speedy recovery and no returns of what ails 'ya.

Hey cutie, you know that we are all pulling and praying for you. Things like that run in my family too and so far everyone that has dealt with them has come out AOK. I hope and pray that you will also. A positive attitude is one of the most important things you can have.
Can't wait for you to be healed so you can come run with TBR.

I have no choice now about the Positive Attitude grrrrrr.. I was hoping to go towards the white light but I made a promise last night to someone that I would fight that urge or will. So.... gotta do the positive thing I guess since I don't break a promise or go back on my word.

Kim what will be will be. You can have the positive attitude to do anything your little ol heart desires. But iffen HE wants you, who are you to say No. Good luck on the invasive surgery. Remember no aspirin for at least ten days prior, cause of blood thinning. Also no booze cause of thinning effects. Eat good after and eat right....Skip...

Kim,

If he thinks you may be going home that day then it appears he plans to do this arthroscopically (small cuts and tubed instruments, lasers, cameras) which is a good thing as you will feel less discomfort afterwards and will heal much faster.

My prayers will be for the doctor's hands to be steady, and his eyesight extra keen that day. You don't really need prayers, all you have to do is sleep

You'll be fine.

Certainly get your rest. I had hernia surgery a couple of years ago arthroscopically and it cut the recovery time in half. Hope this holds true for you also.
