2008 Redline Delivered and Refused

Well folks....Those of you that wondered what the new Techno Gray would look like......it looks _od Awful.

When I ordered my new redline the GM asked me what color I wanted and I said I wanted the Silver Graphit, just like my 2007 shown in my avatar. He commented that Silver Graphite was now longer available, the "same color" is now called Techno Gray. So, on his word I ordered my new RedLine in Techno Gray. As deluke reported, the new RedLine was delivered to the dealer on 7/31/07. I got "the call" the same day and was overjoyed for two reasons: 1) the car was finally here , and 2) that I would be able to take my new 2008 on the Solstice and Sky cruise scheduled for Sunday here in Central Florida. My wife and I went to the dealer the same day (7/31/07) to see and pick up the new car.

Well.......it looked absolutely awful to both of us. We decided that if we were going to spend $34,000.00 (including Taxes) that we wanted a car that we would be proud to drive and show-off. THIS WASN'T THAT CAR!!

So....We said NO to the new Sky. We had already sold the old Silver Graphite. A young man flew in from Tucson, Arizona, paid me cash, then drove it back to Arizona (2,150 miles).

Before I sold the old Sky, with only 1,800 miles on it, I took off the accessories that I could so I could use them on the new Sky. So now I'm stuck with about $330.00 worth of factory and after market goodies for the Sky.

I,m going to list them in the "For Sale" section later today if anyone is interested.

We have since bought another car that I thought would be fun to drive. A Corvette convertible with only 17,000 miles on it. 350 hp with a 6 speed manual and every option available at that time (the Heads-up display in the windshield is really cool).

I've been on this forum so long that I refuse to stop conversing with so many really nice people. So I'll stick around if it's OK with others on the forum. I feel like a traitor in some ways but I'm really happy that I got a car that I'm proud to drive, even if it's not a new Sky. My wife wants to order another Sky in Red or Yellow for herself so shortly I'll order another one for her.

I can't get the "Manage Attachments" to work for me. I was trying to insert an attachment photo of the Vette. Maybe some time in the future.

Well getting the vette is kinda in the same family so of course I say you can stay! BUT who am I to say anything? LOL

Sorry about the huge let down ugggg... HUGS to you and your wife on that one... But then also happy hugs for the new vette!!!!!

Thanks Kim.....No, I didn't want to have a picture of that Sky. I guess I was too dissapointed to even think about it. Actually, I'm sure that many people have ordered that color and will be very happy with it. But it wasn't for us.

Still none the less disappointed for ya'll, even with a vette in that garage. UGGG! I would still be crushed. Hence another reason in the last few years of my life I have gotten to the point where I won't let myself get excited about anything just for the whole disappointing factor there. Lol


So figure out how young man & get those Vette pictures on here so we can see & be excited!!!!!

Sorry to hear about that. I saw the Techno Gray on the Aura and it wasn't to my liking, so I made sure that my dealer order me the 07 Redline Silver Graphite.

Sorry it didn't work out for you & the wife Larry. I seen the techno grey on an Aura thats was bought up the street. I admit it does not look that bad. It is to me a lot darker than the silver graphite previously produced. But like everything else in life, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I myself am not partial to the grey(s), or graphite silver colors and would probably never a buy any car in those colors that is silvery if you will. I think there are just to many cars with those colors IMHO and just does not do it for me or my wife for that matter. I am also a believer however that for that amount of money you MUST be happy with everything about a new car, including the color, so I don't blame yawl for walking away. As for the wife still wanting a Sky, why not, once addicted hard to break it off. Either of those colors would be great. If I had a choice I would probably take the red one, but again, I don't think there is a mistake in any color, really-it is a personal choice-I'm sure you probably made somebody happy on the waiting list for that color will not be an issue, or ordered the grey. That car won't stay on the lot long once the word goes out. Oh, congrats on the vette, not a bad second choice--altho I woulda bought a new one--

I saw some pictures of your VD (I mean Vertical Doors - Ha!Ha!). They did a good job installing them. If I would have known earlier about the new Techno Gray, I would have kept the 07 Sky. I really loved the vertical doors. However, I don't believe I'll change the vette. It's an old one, four years, but only 17,000 miles and completely stock. I think the value will stay good on the vette as long as I don't make radical changes to it.

I wish I had attended the last cruise. I looked at the pictures and not only a great turnout, but many familiar faces from the last cruise.

That's good to know since I have a Miata also, bought it used, 2001 with 135000 miles to drive back and forth to work. 45 miles each way. After driving my Redline though, it's hard to get in the Miata!

To me it looked like shiny primer on the Aura that my wife saw. She liked it, but I thought it was too plain for me. Clearly that is just my opinion that may be shared by some, but others like the color. That's why we have choices.

It's too bad the dealer described it as the same color because it is far from the "same" color and kept you from considering other colors.

At the top of page it is silver pearl. That is still available in 2008.

I guess the lack of a "metallic" appearance and the plain dull look is what I didn't like. I see many new cars (Toyota, Nisson, etc.) with the same color. I also think the dissapointment that GM would cancel such a popular color of Silver Graphite. From what I can remember of the many polls here on the forum asking what color people ordered last year, one of the top two or three choices was Silver Graphite. If the Techno Gray had been Techno Metallic Gray I wouldn't have minded it so much.

Like others have said, I'm sure there will be people that will love this new color, but I, personally, think it is an unacceptable substitute for Silver Graphite.

Supposedly they had to drop the color because Dupont couldn't give them consistency between paint batches (each batch was slightly different).

I'm sure that will drive body shops nuts in the future trying to match the paint.

At least that's a viable explanation. Actually, you are the first person that has mentioned "why" GM dropped the Silver Graphite.
