That was actually the first question that I asked the engineer after the announcement. He said that it did not affect normal non boost driving but that it was all added throughout the RPM range while under acceleration and boost.

LoL, GM has not only found a way to beat the CAFE standards, but perhaps make money while doing it.

Introduce a car tuned for maximum mpg, which will help with CAFE, and then offer a performance tune.

my goal is 300whp but i dont wanna lose any mpg if i dont have to, and seeing the parts that are out right now i can see it happening, itll just need a tune.

I had posted way in the past about a site that tracks the Power to Weight ratio... Idea being that a lighter car doesnt need same HP to compete, and the true speed factor is the HP per vehicle weight.
Horsepower Site - All Cars

(Cars below are 2007 model numbers, compared to the 290hp RL)

So.... just doing an update, based on 290hp on the Redline
Chevy Corv cpe - 400 - 3179 - 7.95
Porsche Boxter S - 295 - 2965 - 10.05
Sky Redline - 290- 3071 - 10.59
Subaru WRX - 293 - 3315 - 10.72
Mitsu Evo -286 - 3263 - 11.40
Ford Mustang GT - 300 - 3450 - 11.50
Chevy Monte Carlo ss - 303 - 3490 - 11.51
Nissan 350x - 306 - 3601 - 11.77
Dodge Charger RT - 335 - 4031 - 12.03
Honda S2000 - 237 - 2855 - 12.05
Audi A8 - 350 - 4288 - 12.25
Toyota Camry 3.5le - 268 - 3461 - 12.91
Mazda RX8 - 232 - 3045 - 13.13
Mits Eclipse GT - 263 - 3545 - 13.48
Acura RL - 290 - 4014 - 13.84
Chry PT Cruiser GT Conv - 230 - 3471 - 15.09
Mazda MX5 - 166 - 2602 - 15.67

I too could have sworn he said something about a possible Turbo swap out as well, maybe I heard wrong, he was very soft spoken. What I got out of it, and it WAS NOT CLEAR AT ALL, was a turbo swap and Tune for under $1K (Probably $999.99). I also heard mention of 26 PSI max on the turbo.

Also with an aftermarket exhaust it would be closer to 300HP. Either way, that kind of power increase is not bad for $1K considering you will be still under the 100K mile warrantee. I would rather buy a reprogram from the original engineers of the platform than from someone that has nothing to do with the original design of the engine, it just makes more sense to me!

no.. I have to disagree...

Maybe an IC, or Cat-Back... but... not a turbo.. thats gotta cost much more. But, I am sticking with "No modifications to the car"

I spoke to the guy before the announcement, and man.. I cant remember how he specifically said it when we spoke... but it was pretty clear to me it was an ECU/ECM (whatever they are called) tune only.

Besides... would be pretty crappy of him to make that announcement and then find out later on ya needed other things.

also.... guys over in the Solstice forum have been discussing this for a month.
It's official SETUP announces GMPP STAGE KIT for GXP - Page 2 - Pontiac Solstice Forum

in fact... post 61 from brentil, about a month ago... has the specs 100% on the mark

I do not believe it applies to the 2.4L...only the R/L...is that correct?

GM is in this to MAKE MONEY. Of course, they also want to satisfy us customers....but that goes hand in hand with making money. And I hope they make plenty of money. Because a healthy GM is good for us...and our future with our Kappas.

I couldn't agree more.

You are correct Mike. This is only for the Redlines... I guess that means you'll have to buy a 2009 Redline in the new Merlot...

The kit will be a tune done by the dealership and two replacement sensors. The sensors don't help the car make more power, but are upgraded to handle the new higher levels being put through them.

I came away with the understanding it was more than a simple reflash. On the other hand if it include a new turbo I can not see how it can be done from under $1K. Time will tell -- whenever "this summer" is.

ooohhhhhh.... that sounds nice.

I like the idea of thenew sensors, whatever it is they do!
Always wondered about the aftermarket tunes, in that "does the rest of the car know how to handle the extra HP"?
