3M Clear Paint Protection Film

Has anyone had this product on their car? I plan to own my SKY for 10+ years and am concerned with it's removal/replacement.

Some Soltice owners already have rock chips on the front of their cars. After reading http://www.automotivearticles.com/Clear_Bra_3M.shtml I'm about 100% sure I will have the approx $600 3M clear film installed on the front of my Yellow SKY and backs of mirrors (rocker panels if cost allows)

Called all 3 certified 3M installers listed at http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...gard-PPF/Home/ in the Charlotte NC area and they won't receive a computer cut template for some time after the car is released. I really want it done ASAP so no damage is done to the front prior to install.

the 3m stuff leaves a visible line at where the film ends.

I've never seen this stuff in action, but it seems like a better solution--

wow, that armour stuff looks pretty good... looks like other sports car owners are ok putting it on their cars, so it's good enough for my sky

I have had this product on my past Mustang Mach 1 as well as my boyfriends current 2006 Z06 Corvette & it does make a difference, just make sure it's put on properly & all seams are completly flush with the body of the car so that no water gets behind it or else it will cause mould problems.

That depends on the color. The darker the color, the more visible the line is. I viewed a yellow S2000 with Stongard and couldn't tell it had it unless I ran my fingers across it, or was looking for it from less than two feet away.

I don't think I want that stuff on my car. I only plan to use the Sky in the summer and only during good weather anyway.

Not for me either! The main worry I will have is those A..holes that like to flip cigarette butts at other cars. A (open) convertible is a nice target, even when no one is in it. Maybe we should carry "real" shotguns instead of someone riding shotgun.

ya, I really don't want to do any of this either but the area I live in is very congested and bumper to bumper even at 70mph. so rock chips are just a fact of life. Thats Cali for ya.

Thanks for the link. Love the idea of more like a "paint" then plastic film. Just checked our armorcoat and don't have a good feeling yet. The site seems to mainly promote it as a way to make money if you are a dealer/installer & their installer link has no listings. Hmmmm....How long have they been around? In 10 years will this stull look like crap? At least with the 3M plastic, it peels off, this armorcoat is ON THERE!

ya, I have no idea. I just googled it and that was the first company that came up. I have never seen or know anything about their product.. I was just giving you guys an option to check out. There maybe more reputable companies out there that do the same type of thing. I'll be looking into it more closely after I get my sky,CAI,dual exhaust, tuned ECM, kappashield.... I'm a man with priorities!!!!!! hehehe
