4000+ Mile Cross-Country Drive = How Many Kappas?

After a two week hiatus away from the forum to drive 4286 miles from California to Washington DC (in not the most direct route) I am happy to report the Kappas are still quite a rarity.

Granted I wasn't always in the most metropolitan areas (Yellowstone, Mt Rushmore, Mackinac Island) but here is the tally:

Kappa Kount:
  • Solstii: 6 on the road, 1 at a dealership, 1 other
    • 1 Silver Graphite (I know thats the Sky color but just go with it) in LA
    • 1 Silver Pearl for rent in Vegas
    • 1 Black outside St Paul
    • 1 Black at a dealer in Mich
    • 1 Green in Detroit
    • 1 Red in Detroit
    • 1 Black outside Niagara Falls
    • 1 Red outside Erie, PA
  • Skys: 2 on the road, 1 other, 1 dealer, tons "other"
    • 1 Black Onyx outside Detroit
    • 1 Red on Las Vegas Blvd being rented
    • 1 Black Onyx outside of a dealer in Minnesota
    • Tons of billboards with the Sky including several in Detroit that promoting winning 2 Skys at a casino (one for work, one for play)
The lack of Kappa sightings made me miss my Sky even more. And sadly I missed the plant tour and even more sadly I was driving a VW that entire time across the country!

I have attached some images of some roads that I thought looked like they would be a great time in the Sky though. Feel free to live vicariously!

Thanks guys, its a shame Mackinac Island does not permit cars - well not really, but maybe for that particular road ... that picture is of the only state highway in the country where motorized vehicles are prohibited!

what is it like cruisin across country. I've told myself I'll do that sometime before I die. Just cruise in the sky, from Baltimore, to Cali. all the way up the coast and back again

Its actually the second time I have done it. To be honest with you its very easy to do with company along the way. After you get through one 6-8 hour drive doing it for consecutive days is pretty easy - your mind just kind of kicks in to auto-pilot and you just take it all in as you make your way across.

Id recommend having a general idea of where you'd like to go but not committing to any set dates or routes. We didn't book hotels any further than 2 days in advance and using priceline/hotwire stayed in four star hotels such as Westin and Hyatt for around 55 dollars a night but also explored and stayed at Bed and Breakfasts, KOA Kabins, dive motels, and even a Teepee resort off Route 66.

We had the help of a "Lets Go Cross Country" book to point out small towns and restaurants that shouldn't be missed, but other than that it was just the giant Rand-McNally and our imagination that got us the route we ended up with.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it. Hope that helps!

Thanks Reed -

Still wish I had been on the tour though! I need pics of the trip! I also need to wash off my Sky, 2 weeks of no love and high pollen makes Silver Graphite look like Metallic Pee.

There aren't any pics from inside the plant since cameras aren't allowed in, but it was a really great time. Now go wash your car! I know what mine has been looking like after pollen builds up for a day or two, and I can only imagine 2 weeks of accumulation. Ugh!
