500 mile review

First a little background, I never owned a sports car..I have been driving a 2000 Dodge Durango for the last 7 years. I am 44 yrs old (so mid life crisis is probably a yes) Been married 23yrs and have a daughter in college and a son a Jr in high school. Saw a Sky commercial and was hooked!!! So 9 days have passed since I picked it up and 500 miles are in the books.

How the car looks:

I won't waste your time as all of you who have one or have seen one know it is a great looking car. I was not real prepared for all the attention it gets just about everywhere! I did get some condensation in the taillights but it is gone for now but I am keeping my eye on it. I feel obligated to point out I got the second Bluestone here in Colorado and I have only gotten positive comments on the color.... people really like it, I guess at this altitude against a Rocky Mountain SKY it looks better than it does in NJ ( Marlboro Mike that is for you!)

Driving the Sky:

Of course getting used to being one of the smallest cars on the road is taking some time, I have always used my side mirrors but these are small and you have to get them set just right to remove the blind spots but I am getting the hang of it. I have the automatic and it is very quick and the car is so responsive. It makes driving everyday a lot of fun. I will say the car is low and have scraped a couple of times a little coming out of steep driveways but I think I have the 90 degree technique down and am doing ok. I am getting about 20 miles to the gallon around town so that beats the Durango by a long way, got about 26 on the highway on one trip not to much to compare.

The Interior:

I love how close everything is to reach and the seats are comfortable, I have started to see the seat leather begin to rumple a little...it is very soft leather and seems this will happen, I guess as long as it does not crack I can live with it.
The Monsoon is great , with top down at highway speed it still had great sound! As some one said in here MORE BASS PLEASE) Passenger gets a free massage with every ride from the sub. Cup holders are a little awkward but I don't have to shift so I don't elbow them open to often.

Top and Trunk:

We all know it is small, did not buy it to haul anything but me and the wife! I did not realize how warm it gets it there on longer trips probably don't want anything that might melt.

Top is real easy to operate, no real issues there. One side of my trunk lid seems just slightly higher and it is on the side that the buttress seems to take just a little more pressure to put down, thus maybe seems worse when top is up (more tension).

Biggest Problem:

My wife really likes driving the car too!!!

The Forum:

I am not going to review the forum, just say thanks to all who are so open and honest about this car and have made (and are making) this car experience alot of fun for me. The 3 month wait was almost worth it as I felt I knew alot about this car when it got here. I look forward to many happy years of driving with this car.

Great review RockyMtnSky! Makes me even more excited to get mine a couple weeks.

I haven't driven a convertible since about 17 (1967 Mustang), and haven't really ever driven a small sportscar. I've been driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee for the past decade, so am sure it'll take some time to get used to driving a low-to-the-ground, small car.

But I plan to get used to it real quick!

They told me 90 days from deposit to delivery and it took 88. I see alot of people taking longer some shorter. I guess it is just based on that dealer's allotment and I suppose that that is determined by the market share.

Nice post.

An 88 day wait sounds good to me.

Hope your higher vin has less (or none) problems than the lower vins.

Enjoy your new ride.
