Aftermarket Radio Install

I actually did this install this summer (August timeframe) but I never took pictures or posted it but since I took pics of my radiator install I decided to take pics of this as well.

I installed a Pioneer AVIC-Z2 radio with the works. Here is a list of what I installed:

Pioneer AVIC-Z2 (Bypass ready)
Pioneer ND-BC2 Universal Rear View Camera
GMOSLAN04 Onstar LAN Data Bypass Interface
Pioneer CD-iB 100ii Ipod Control Interface
Metra 95-3302 Double Din Dash Kit
Pioneer ND-BT1 Bluetooth Wireless Mobile Adapter
Pioneer GEXP10XMT XM Satellite Radio and XM NavTraffic Tuner
Peripheral PESWIPS Steering Wheel Audio Control

Bottom line is everything works, factory steering wheel controls, Onstar, XM-radio. With the bluetooth you can use your phone through your radio or with voice commands through your radio. You can plug in your i-pod and stick it in the glove box and control it through the radio. With the bypass you can use the map functions and watch DVDs while driving. You can even watch the rear cam while driving (although there is not much to look at).

The map navigation is built into the radio's hard drive so no discs to worry about and it even has 10gigs for your own music library.

All in all its a pretty cool set-up. I had the rear cam installed right below the back-up light so it isn't even visible unless you kneel down so hopefully no one will mess with it.

Where did you put the XM Antenna? I just got my Avic D3 installed with Nav Traffic this weekend with almost exactly the same parts. I got the installer to put the XM antenna on the metal shelf behind the compartment between the seats. Other forums indicated this would work great. In my case the signal only works if the roof is down. I have to take it back and get them to move the antenna.

Can you hook up to the built in antenna on the rear fin?

How do you get a bypass for the unit?

My antenna is exposed in the center of the trunk where it closes next to the top. Again, its exposed but no problems with signals. I heard the same thing you did but left it up to the installer and that's where he put it.

I don't believe you can hook into the built in one...

For the Z2 you burn the software update onto a disc (ISO image) then you do the two-wire bypass (refer to avic411.com for details). Not sure if it is any different for the D3.
