Alittle less chrome...

Was bored the other day and made this....

not sure if I totally like it yet, but I think the car looks much better w/o the huge chrome piece up front..

It is well executed! I myself like the chrome waterfall on the front, but that what makes the world go round. Nice Job though!!

Does it match the brake ducts? If so, where'd you get it?

Just some expanded metal I picked up from a local fabrication shop.

It matches really close, I wish it had more depth, that would make it look better.

I was thinking of removing the top front chrome with the logo as well.
What metal are you talking about c5 ? Is the grille "unfinished" under the piece?

Very Nice! Funny you mention the whole chrome thing. I was at a show a couple of weeks ago and a Solstice owner didn't like the Sky because it had "too much chrome"..thanks for sharing!

Black.. yeah that grill is unfinished... there is a big area taken out in the center to leave room for the chrome.

it's been mentioned to me that since the stock grille there is solid that putting something perforated here might not be good.

can anyone clarify because i really want to do this to my car

I guess I have just gotten used to the Chrome bar, and this just looks like it is unfinished.. needs chrome encircling the outside edge to give it a finished look. sort of like what i put at the bottom of my stock grill.

Interesting.

I think whether or not you like the change depends entirely on your own view and perspective.

I can certainly see that the change, at least in my view, makes the car look a bit sportier or rough. The chrome, in my view, adds a bit of refinement and classiness.

Just my $.02.

The air intake sits directly behind this area. I can only assume that you'd be prone to get moisture in the intake system if you replace the solid piece with something perforated.

Everything's chrome in the future! Anyone care to guess what that is from?

I like it! Was thinking of doing the same.

I think what is really needed is a smaller chrome bar to go across, minus the drop-down area for the Saturn badge. Something slimmer, but still looking like it came from the factory.

I have a machine shop - heck, maybe I'll design something.

that's what i assumed too. so i guess i'll have to find a peice of flat material and the put the cool looking grille in front of it

it's ok it's your car

plastic "chrome" doesn't do it for me usually. i don't mind it as much on the lighter colors. but on black and midnight blue i love the darker trim

I like it, gives the car a more aggressive look. On the non-redline cars though, in order for something like that to truly blend with the rest of the front end, we'd have to remove the horizontal chrome trim down by the driving lights...

Yeah, I always thought there's something about the front end that always looked a little off. It just looks too busy or something but I could never put my finger on it. I gotta say, that looks really good. You should consider marketing/selling this. Its the best I've seen yet!

Good job!

Edit: I think it would look good too if it were painted the same color as the car.
