Anyone UNDER 21 - MPG that is

I see all these threads with people getting at least 30 MPG - and I'm sad. I haven't been able to pass 20 MPG and I commute both city and highway. Here's the catch, I was told by the dealer that this is the case for people in the greater LA area, because we are always in stop-and-go traffic.

Is this happening to any of you who live in big metro areas?

Live in DFW area and get around 19 in town but do get 24-27 on highway; this with actual calculation not DIC as it reads 1-3 mpg lower than actual most of the time.

DIC shows 24.8 mpg (overall)
Redline, Manual Transmission

I've reset it multiple times after a few thousand miles, and it has always been in this territory. I've reset for long trips and on the highway I pull down 30+ mpg.

If i follow the prior poster, my DIC is actually a few mpgs LOWER that actual.. putting me closer to 28 mpg!?!?! wow

Let me add... I am heavy footed driver. Nothing illegal but I am definately not babying this engine.

Quite honestly... can't believe people get less gas mileage than I. That being said, of the 4 possible Engine/Tranny combos, my Manual Redline is the most fuel efficient, so maybe the people under 20mpg are Auto Base skys?

oog.. yeah.. I only use GM approved premium gasoline (Shell V-Power)

I'm getting 24-25 MPG (average) per driver info screen. I also have a very heavy foot so don't assume I'm just putting around and never getting on the gas. If you're not even reaching 20, I'd call the dealer service dept.

I wonder if it has something to do with cali gas, I know I run 93 octane Amoco Ultimate and always seem to be above 28-29 mpg. But the few times I have got stuck and had get the lower octane fuel my mpg drops big time have even seen it below 24mpg

So I guess I have to ask do they let you guys in cali get the good fuel, I know they have a special mix for out there maybe you need to correlate mpg to fuel octane?

Dude, the gas out here sux! I am about 20.4mpg. But I DRIVE my baby! I also have a lot of in city stop and go which is horrible for mileage. On the Hwy I average about 28-30 still w/ the crud they call fuel out here.

We are getting between 22.5-25 freeway and in town. Might have to do with us in Calif. being blessed with all the "topless" days and having the top down all the time. Is the higher mileage people are getting due to the fact that there tops are up and the air is off? Air drag might have a big impact on mileage, or so I have been told.

Still hitting 28-30 in Atlanta. Not LA, but the traffic here is pretty darn close!

Never even gotten close to 20, until I switched for a couple of tanks of Chevron 93 octane, dropped to just under 20 for 2 tanks that I used. I immediately went back to shell 93, walla, back to normal, which a mix of city/hwy and from 23 - 26 MPG ( I am surprised 'bout the Chevron however, it is a top tiered fuel, should be as good as shell, unless they got a bad batch, or they mixed fuels in tank) I'll give m another test soon.

You may have a point here, I have not put my top up in the past month or so - and have noticed a significant decrease in MPG. I also see in other threads that brand of gas makes a difference? I wish there was a "Best of Best" list we could create based off feedback from the site.

I would do anything to get better gas mileage...but putting the top up is not an option right now in this beautiful LA weather

I'm in the Bay Area in Cali for the time being....I average between 17-21 MPG depending on how hard I push it. I think it has something to do with the different gas blend out here. I'm about to drive from California to Louisiana, so I'm hoping to get upwards around 30mpg on the interstate.

The EPA 08 Automatic RL range is 15 to 23 City and 21 to 31 highway. Keep in mind these ranges attempt to bound the majority of conditions one can expect in the two environments. It is possible to find yourself in a situation which is better or worse than the estimated range.

If you're running an Auto RL between 15 and 23 in the city, then you're within the expected range. I hear the 2.4L are slightly worse on the mileage. I average about 22 overall in my RL, but some of that is highway.
