buttress problems anyone?

After I test drove a sky the salesman tried to show me how easy it was to operate the top. It did seem easy enough but one of the buttresses would not catch. As I was more concerned with the top down driving experience I didn't worry about it but after reading some posts about tops tearing I thought I should bring it up.

3500 miles and no problems with mine so far.

The only problem I've had with the butress is not aligning in the hole. That's a sure sign to me that I didn't get the pins in correctly on the windshield.

Make sure you latch the top to the windshield before attempting to pop in the buttresses. If you attempt to do "all the outside stuff first" before closing the latch inside the car, it doesn't work well at all. Top raising sequence:
  1. Open trunk.
  2. Raise top.
  3. Latch center latch to windshield.
  4. Close trunk.
  5. Close buttresses.
Gotta do it int that order.

4500 miles and no problems, if you follow the proper order of events.

We had an alignment problem. The right side would not pop. Dealer fixed it and all is good.

I also had the same problem. Not only would I not be able to get the top to catch, when I did, it would come undone while driving. The dealer tried to fix it and finally they brought a Saturn rep. to look at it. They had to do some minor adjustmets under the deck and problem has now gone away. No problems since. It is nice to have a dealer that sticks with the problem and then calls in the forces when they exhausted their know-how. Good luck.

Thank you for the post. this is what I was hoping to hear. That it may happen but not a big deal to correct. It's kind of scary buying first generation anything. You would think the manufacturer should know what their doing. But anything that new is going to have new tech or function and the potential for mistakes.

We had a problem with the buttress on the driver's side not lining up well with the latch on the trunk of our Sky when we picked her up last week. The service department fixed it in about 30 minutes - so everything is perfect now!
