A cacophony of Rocks!

Behind a dump truck (don't ask how I got there),suddenly I hear... Tink Tink smack ping crack, like a frikin machine gun going off. Probably heard about twenty over a five second period.

Upon close inspection all I found was a 1 to 2 mm clearcoat scratch on the hood, base coat intact. I can see it from about two feet away under normal lighting, but have to look at it and focus on it. If I get sun glint at that point on car then it stands out a little bit because without clearcoat you can tell the reflective difference.

I guess there could be some micro dinks, but nothing I could see six inches off the hood.

All in all, I'm really surprised that with all that pinging and tinking, I cam off with just that one noticeable nic.

Time to hone up on my nic repair skills....been twenty years since I've worked a black clearcoat.

Sooner Magic went under the screwdriver and paint brush for this very problem today.

I forgot my garage door opener and house keys on my key chain and had to go back to the dealer to get them. I wasn't prepared to walk in to the body shop and find my baby already in pieces. I think I need a hug.

And to top it off, I have to wait two whole days to get it back.

Actually, I was really pleased because I had skinned my chin and the dealer was fixing that as well. [I guess that what you get for leasing / buying 5 cars from the same dealer in the last 4 years].

I am quite surprised that they didn't remove the hood vents and paint under them like the factory. Did they just mask them off. You want the coats of paint to extend under the vents like the factory paint is.

When my hood and decklid were repainted they took them off the vehicle and painted them in a paint booth separate from the car?

Actually, they aren't going any where near the vents. I'm not sure what they taped them off.

Sweet. Then they just didn't want to get overspray on them which is good on their part. By the way how much is this setting you back. PM me with th answer if you dont want to post it. I am thinking on getting the clear coat redone then clear bra-ing it. 40,000 miles puts some rock chips in it

Fortunately, I have a really good relationship with this dealer. It is being done gratis in conjunction with some very very minor warranty work. But my plan is to go the same route you are and put the clear bra on.
