Caliper Treatment - The Sequel

I liked the way the painted calipers looked on SPIRIT so much, on Christmas Day I did a "Dad and Daughter" project and we did the calipers on BABY with the leftover paint. (We still have enough left to do two more cars, I would think...) One difference is that on SPIRIT I used a black caliper decal, whereas on BABY I went with silver, and I am glad I did! Anyway, here are the pics of the process on BABY.

1. Put car on jack stands and remove wheels
2. Clean the caliper with the cleaner provided in the kit (photo 1)
3. Rough up the caliper with a brush (photo 2)
4. Mask the calipers (photo 3)
5. I also removed the spring clip from the rear calipers (photo 4)
6. Paint - three coats (photo 5)
7. Let dry (photo 6)
8. Unmask and apply decal (photo 7)
9. Peel of decal backing (photo 8)
10. Replace spring on rear calipers
11. Remount wheels (photo 9)
12. Lower car, tighten up lug nuts and away you go...

That's all it takes. If you want to see pics of the process on SPIRIT, you can do so on this thread which also includes helpful tips on how to jack up the SKY...

Looks great...but I think it will be neater if u take off the calipers...that is my Spring project and I will have Diane come over...she did it to her Solstice and it came out great...I was impressed...it was black paint and she took everything off....she is an engineer for the Dept of Defense.

That is the other way to go. I asked my daughter if she wanted to go that route, or just paint them in place. She said that she was comfortable doing it in place, so that's what we did.

Now that I have done it to SPIRIT and got a good look at the calipers inside and out when it was on the lift at Magnaflow, I will probably paint the inside of my calipers the next time I do a bunch of projects just to have them done all over - not that anybody will know other than me.

And the rest of you if I post pictures of that process, too...

I might have to show up for that and see if I can find a way to convince the two of you to help* me do mine!

John, your calipers look great!

*By help, I may mean pretty much do it for me because I'm useless when it comes to anything mechanical...

Just finished my calipers today. Didn't like the color blue
in the kit, but it made a good base coat to over spray with
high temp metalic darker blue. First pic is the kit blue. Second
is after the metalic coat.

I like how u refer to them as toe nails...smartly worded....but more important for the members is the first pic of your Borla exhaust....u see how it is not flush with the rear fascia..just like mine...matter of fact, it has the same appearance...it is not flush like the R/L's....definitely, a more aggressive rear end...

Note members...it does not go past the rear bumper...correctly installed.
