Can it pace a race?

Just wondering if the Sky (or a Sky Redline) can pace a race like the Indy 500? Seems like they had a Chevy SSR a few years back, so it seems possible to me. Whaddyathink?

Maybe a Sky party in Indy in May?

Yes.......sorta.

It's my guess that they'd use the Solstice before the Sky. Pontiac has a deeper racing heritage.

I can't recall Indy ever using such a small car. And just about everything except the C5 Vettes were highly modified for the purpose. In other words, don't hold your breath.

Yes it can...and I would be there in a heartbeat. Indy did use a custom Pontaic Fiero several years ago as the pace car.

1984 Indy 500 Pace Car

Found this information on the following website; (http://www.indypacecars.com/1984.html)

The 1984 Pontiac Fiero is among the most unique cars ever to pace the Indy 500. It is the only mid-engine car ever to pace the 500, as well as the shortest car to ever hold the honor. It is also one of very few 4-cylinder cars to pace at Indy. However, the engine in the Fiero pace car was far different from the 92-horsepower version found in the production model Fiero. This bored out 2.7L engine produced 232 horses and turned a lap at better than 136 MPH. The car also featured an air intake located above the roof to help cool the mid-engine car.

So maybe the Sky CAN pace a race!?!
