Cant' park Sky alone.

OK - Redline is still new and I'm in that phase where I hate to park it anywhere.

I always park waaaay out in a parking lot where no one else would want to park and walk. Never fails, I come out a few minutes later and some a**hole is parked next to me, even though there are dozens of better, closer spots to park. It's never an expensive car - always some POS just itching to put that first ding in my car.

Why is that?

I was going to say maybe it's cause they know you wont ding their car. Although if it's a pos, then I really don't have an explanation for ya.

They just wanna check it out, so they park there and walk in afterward. The good news is they're less likely than most to ding it- when they get out of their car, they're completely focused on looking at yours. They care about hurting it- it's the reason they commited to the walk!

He's right. I'd rather have an admirer than a maniac any day.

A car parked in a "normal" parking place may be more likely to get an accidental door ding, but one parked way out by itself seems more likely to attract intentioal damage.

I park mine like a regular car, avoiding over-narrow places, and (so far) have not attracted a ding. There have been reports here and on the Sol forum of vandalism while parked in remote spots. There is no absolute protection.

I go to a fast food place and the place is dead, so I park it so i can see it and there are tons of free spaces all over the place, but some A$$ has to park his HHR right next to mine...so after he comes in, i go out move it over two more spaces.... SteveSky67

Hologram

we need some sort of hologram projector that makes it appear that the space next to you is already occupied.

Considering how new the HHR is I doubt he was going to cause any harm. He probably parked next to you cause he knew it would be safe there. I bet he just laughed when he saw you move your car.

And considering the SS also has a built up ecotec in it, he may have felt some kind of comradeship towards you and was protecting your car

I'm not sure if he saw me or not..and if he did, who cares...but i just have this thing about publice parking lots, now if another Sky/Solstice was parked next to me, well that would be different....like this past weekend....but yet since i was the last in the parking lot in New Hope, there was one space next to me and as we were going to the restaurant, another Bluestone pulled up and took the space..thank god...SteveSky67

Whatever the reason, it makes your car more presentable as a comparison. Especially if they have a run-of-the-mill car that millions of others have.

Ohh, and learn to park against gravity in parking lots.

Because there is always someone who sees this car parked out in the middle of no where and thinks "Oh, he/she thinks their car is so hot so they park it out here....I'll show 'em. I'll part next to them".

The problem is by being so far out, it stands out...gets attention...and someone is going to mess with you. Face it, there are folks who are jealous of your car. Some will just mess with you by parking next to you. Others will actually damage the car.

I have a solution that works pretty good. Don't park waaay out. Instead, park in the medium zone, where there are cars here and there. You can still park alone, but you don't stand out. You blend in so the crazies don't see you. Or if they do see you, they don't get a burr up their butt thinking you're better than them by parking waaay out there.

Thats exactly what I do!

I also try and park on the end if possible so at most you'll have 1 car next to you! Parking next to a handicapped spot is the best since you can park over a little further!

I think our society is such that people are conditioned to group together, so even when it comes to parking our cars, many people think they need to stay in line and park in rows as to not waste space!

Some of course do it intentionally, but some just seems to be their nature.

Umm, I'm not driving the Sol today but I parked beside one in the parking garage. I even gave him more room between us for fear of him thinking a fellow Sol owner (unbeknownst to him) was being an A$$hole by parking beside him. I even left him/her a little present slipped in the window and rubber gasket (our SOL forum card).

So not everyone who parks beside you is an automatic A$$hole - maybe they're an owner too ...but just not driving theirs that day.

I always look for nice cars to park next to and I try to leave a little extra space if I can. So that everybodys got space to swing the doors.
I also like to try to get the end space and crowd the outside line some so at least I'll only have one car next to me.
If theres shopping carts I'll take them back to the building with me or put them in the corral.

Oh! Next to cart corrals is a great place. 1.Nobody uses them 2. Usually takes less than one car spot so it leaves extra room. 3. Only one other car can park next to you.

I used to think that too until I realized many of the ones around here aren't anchored to the ground- they're depending on inertia to keep them in place. I parked next to one once (pre-Sky) and came back to find it a lot closer to my car than when I went in. I assume someone hit another part of it and moved the whole thing. I've also seen people just kinda shove carts in that general direction. I'd take a door ding over a cart impact or corral broadsiding any day!

OK I'm totally split on your suggestions. I try to get the end space whenever possible (only 1 idiot to worry about and you can cheat over to the curb side to give some extra room for doors). I also park in the middle ground (Far away, but not the very last spot) and NEVER take up more than 1 spot. That is just asking for your car to be messed with.

As to the cart corral that is my worst spot of all time. I have seen far too many 30+ yard cart pushes into the corral, that sorta missed the corral and hit something they shouldn't have. I don't even like to park in the same isle as those things. I do often take stray carts back to the storefront or corral on my way in though, if they are anywhere near my car.
