Car Cover Recommendation

I'm new to this forum so please excuse me if I'm asking the obvious or doing so in the wrong place.

I've searched for about an hour for recommendations on covers. I'm keeping my baby in a carport this winter and would like any advice that is offered. I have a spoiler if that impacts your suggestions.

I'm in Michigan and had a nice top-down drive yesterday!

Best.

You can get a nice Covercraft outdoor Evolution cover for about $100 from Jeg's or Summit Racing. It's not custom fit and are not as nice looking as the $250 custom covers but they are durable and work great for outside use. I use Covercraft of three of my cars.

That's the bottom of the durable covers. You can spend as much as you want when it comes to a cover.

California Car Covers... They have great fitted covers. I have one for my Sky and one for my PT Cruiser. The stormweave is good for both bad weather and uv protection and comes with a duffel bag for storage. I think mine was about $175...

I got an Evolution® (Technalon®) car cover from carcoverworld for about $150 delivered . It seems to be a decent all weather cover ....works well but the neighbor's cat uses it for a scratching post. At least the cat claws don't go through this cover.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this is a "fitted" cover.

I'm wondering how many cat pelts it takes to make a good coat. With a cat coat I could probably go all winter with the top down.

Sam's Club sells a pretty nice cover that has elastic gathering at the front and back ends. the medium fits pretty well and it's only like 25 bucks.

I have a fitted Evolution cover. What ever you get make sure it's water proof yet breathes, UV resistent, mold proof, and has some form of locking with a belly cable and lock and has form fitted mirror pockets. The only draw back is you have to remove your antenna each time. Even a stubby will wear through after awhile. I should buy stock in that company. This latest one makes seven car covers and one travel trailer cover.

If you have a carport, then you really don't need a high caliber cover. You're mostly protected from the direct fall stuff, and really only need a bit of coverage from the wind blown stuff. There are several discount brand non custom covers out there you can get for around $60.00. You can go as low as $20 for "basic" protection, but it's probably worth a few extra bucks to get one of the low end premium covers. The one's I've seen fit fine over a stubby antenna.

If you get any kind of regular humidity, you really gotta go for the breathers; buy a full waterproof cover with caution. Even if it doesn't rain, moisture will get under the cover. Then you've got to worry about trapped moisture, which can lead to mold or even rust.

Regardless of which cover you get, I recommend "exercising" it (putting it on and off) at least once every week or so. This depends on the environment. A portable leaf blower is nice too, as you can blow off any debris that finds its way on the cover; a good idea before folding/removing it or before any storms with moisture content. I don't have carport, so I have to blow it off every day. If you don't clean the cover and it gets dirty and then wet....the wet mixes with the dirty and seeps through...getting your car dirty...and getting the underside of you cover dirty...and....well, you see where this is headed.

Get a high end discount cover. Keep it clean. Exercise it weekly.

A month ago I paid the big price for this "quality" weathershield cover, which is made by Covercraft, and we hate it! It fit's so tight, it takes two people to put it on. It is poorly cut, the seams do not follow the curves of the car. It tucks so far under the car front and rear that you can't keep it from getting dirty. The exhaust tip's soil it, the underside of the front facia soil's it, and the tires really do a number on it if they have any of the tire dressing product's on them. And to top it off, morning dew get's thru it and moisture sit's between the cover and your paint! I spoke with Covercraft representative's at SEMA in Las Vegas last week and told them just what I thought of their product. They were willing to do "something" if I received no satisfaction from Kappasphere were I bought it. I have not had a chance to talk with Kappasphere since I returned from SEMA. Coverking Car Covers was also at SEMA, and I liked what I saw and heard there. I would take a look at Coverking first. Good Luck!

Wow, that really sucks. John D, who is very auto centric, said he loved that cover.

New Car Cover for SPIRIT

All covers get dirty by the wheels, unless you just washed it and used no dressings. His cover does look tight over the rear wheel in one shot but not over the front, I wonder if your cover is defective. You should return it to Kappasphere.

Moisture will form under any cover if the cover is put on when the car was still warm and the temp around the outside of the cover drops at night. It is probably not going through the cover, but forming underneath.

My car is garaged. I have this cover:
http://www.kappasphere.com/products/..._car_cover.cfm

I only put it on once I wash the car (no tire dressing), if I am not using the car for a while.
It is ultra soft and fits perfect on the car. The only downfall is lint on the ragtop, which takes less than 2 minutes to roll off with a sticky roller. Or I sometimes leave the top down and cover.

Sorry to hear all of your problems with that product, I think for the most part, most outdoor cars are better off being left uncovered and waxed.

I've got a CoverKing Stormproof. From a "fit standpoint it is fantastic. But if you're looking for a moisture "seal", you won't find it here. It does a respectable job, but it ain't water proof. And yep, tires do their number (even without any dressing), as does the exhaust.

But moisture is the least of my worries. I have trees all around, that drop stuff. Lots of stuff...year round. Leaves. Twigs. seeds. Pollen. Ants (yes, the fall from trees). Spiders. Bird dropping. Contantly. Day. Night. So my main concern is keeping all those contaminants off the finish. Leaves are the worst, as they mix with mositure and ooze brown slime on the finish. Yuk! The cover does a fine job in that department. But even then, I gotta blow the cover off with the blower every day...sometimes multiple times day. Because you don't want a dirty cover when it rains.

Two pluses for my cover is 1) It isn't treated, so it won't deteriorate from that perspective, and 2) It rolls up very compact (if you need to store it in the trunk).

I paid $200.00 for mine, and am waffling as to whether it was "worth" the money spent. I guess only time will tell.

I've concluded
