A couple of hours

A couple of hours at the dealership today to get an oil change and the rear end recall done. About the time I received my recall notice, I called up the dealership and asked when would the parts be in for the recall. Of course they did not know what I was talking about and I gave them a week to catch up to what I already knew. Then I called them and asked the service dept. iffen I could get the recall done. I was told that the parts were on back order and to check back in two weeks. I then called the parts dept. and was told the same thing. Two weeks goes by and again I ask about the recall and was told to order the parts. I transferred to the parts dept and was told my name was not in the computer. I could not do anything because my name was not in the computer!!!!!. Pissed now I told them to put my name into the computer and then order the parts. Did not have time I was told to call back. After I hung up the New car manager calls and asks iffen I want my name under Skip or my given name. Of course I choose Skip and he typed it all up and transferred me to the parts manager and my parts were ordered. The dealership calls and tells me the parts are in and I make an appointment for today to have the work on the recall done and the oil change. Gots about three O2 bottles with me and the newspaper and to the dealership I go. Tell them what I am there for and the oil change is done and the Sky is pulled around. They can not do the recall cause of parts. I am a little steamed now cause the parts are in and no additive. The owner of the dealership takes me to a room and we have a long talk, results are free oil change and the Pontiac dealership delivers the additive. The tech has me in and out in about three bottles worth. That is two hours and change. He did not see any leakage and the Sky is good. Everybody knows me now at the dealership that did not know me before. I guess a grown man throwing a tantrum on the showroom floor has its benefits....Skip...

Took mine in for the recall today as well...and an oil change...and for The Whine. They tell me it will be done this afternoon. No call from them, so I call them up about 4:15. Not gonna be done...had to order parts. We hope to have it done tomorrow.

*edit - one more thing I wanted to mention. I went riding with Dino last week. Merlin rides better than my car, the shifts are much smoother, and Merlin doesn't whine. Mine was manufactured 3 days before Merlin. Thought that was interesting! Maybe they worked out some kinks in that 3 days!

Oh for sure! He has the double clutch action down on the downshift! I was hoping we'd get to go out again Tuesday so he could give me pointers, but it didn't work out that we could go.

I can shift pretty dang smooth when I'm not in a hurry...like this morning! But for the most part it's just me in the car and I really don't mind if it grabs a little when I'm winding the car up. I kinda like the little throw action!

But even Mikep has said my car rides rough. I don't really mind that either. I expected it to ride pretty rough when I bought it, but it's noticeably worse then the other Sols and Skys I've ridden in.

Maybe I just need to drive the car more!!!

MERLIN does whine....usually at about 60 mph after a full workout.
I don't pay much attention to it any more

Luck is stumbling into a dealership (any make car) and finding you are dealing with an intelligent group of professionals.
As a Saturn owner, it starts with the 'service consultant' and finding that they are backed up by a team of very intelligent mechanic's.

I was lucky here in Phoenix to stumble into "Saturn of Arrowhead".
Chris Vernon is the service consultant and he is sharp! Friendly, yes but more importantly he is smart ... and has a well educated intelligent team of mechanics to perform magic on your car! I give much credit to the dealership owner and manager, for it is they who place resale importance on training of their service department.

I didn't hear the whine over MERLIN's radio, but maybe MERLIN didn't get a good enough workout. Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

My car whines from 35 mph up to about 70-75 mph. All the time. Cold start...after I've been driving...doesn't matter. It gets really loud at interstate cruising speeds. Noticably so now. Easily heard above the radio. Plus it's starting to make a rattle noise when I come off the gas. The service guys must have found something since they're ordering parts. I'll find out when they call or when I go to get it...probably tomorrow now.

My Dad's 66 pickup (with 3 on the tree) whines in a similar fashion. But I don't think it's as loud...it also doesn't have a radio so I have no way to judge the difference.

haha i am currently having the same deal with a hood seal that is already bad. dealership called to say part was in and says we'll transfer you to the service department to set up an appointment.... they transfer me over servce dept. man picks up and i say i just got transferred to set up an appointment to get my sky worked on, he says service dept. doesn't set up appoinments and retransfers me whoever and no one answered the phone after that and i hung up after listening to ads on hold for 15 minutes.
that was a week ago. they called again last night to get the appointment set up. and all last week it was rainy so i couldn't get it in the shop, cause i absolutely don't drive it in the rain..... well this week it's all sunny and i don't want my sky sitting in the shop when i could be enjoying it.

I took mine in a few weeks ago for recall & oil change - made appointment one week in advance. Sales Mgr saw me coming across the lot & met me at the door "I hope you aren't here for the recall cause we ran out of parts this morning". Ummmm-I've had my appt for a week??!!?? "oh - maybe they saved parts for you - we'll call you first thing in the morning". Well, of course, they didn't. It's a 40 min drive for me so I told them to keep it till they fixed it cause I wasn't make the trip again. I didn't even get mad - and I know the poor Sales Mgr was thinking - oh great - it had to happen to her. Cause heaven knows I wore the poor guy out concerning the delivery (or lack there of) when getting the car.

You know today people are so nicey nice that sometimes when you just tell them the plain hard facts that you upset the apple cart. Well to tell the truth I tant got the time to sugar coat and be nicy nice, so I just tell it like it is and watch the apple cart go crazy....Skip...I guess MM is rubbing off on me...

OK Skip...send a tank this direction. Day 2...still no call and no car. Which was fine...I had to run errands so I couldn't pick it up even if it was done.

And I'm going out for Soup's B-day tomorrow night, so picking it up tomorrow night will be tricky. Probably won't matter since it won't be finished anyway.

Really, I don't care too much. As long as I get it back and it's in run condition so I can drive to Ohio May 1st...I'm fine with it!

Because my dealer tech told me that he only needed to change the liquid and add an additive.

The car runs great now!!!!! But do I need parts??? I'm confused.

Yeah, I think they replace some parts, because some of the parts have been redesigned. Anyone wanna link up the thread that says what is replaced? I gotta scoot here quick!

Day 3...still no car. Hmm...Hope it's done tomorrow. It's supposed to rain Friday.
