Cracked Console - Warranty Repair

SPIRIT had a problem with the console in that a large dent developed when the underlying structure cracked. This is the spot where I put my elbow when settling into the car. Photos below are of the dent.

The dealer ordered a new part and replaced it under warranty. Took about five minutes to pop the old one off and put the new one on. The paperwork took longer than the repair!

Also, I got my shifter boot replaced. The thread was coming up a little bit, so they replaced that with a new one under warranty, too. We had a bit of a false start when the new part came in and was broken - the little clipper tabs on one side were cracked and were therefore not biting in. Not sure if that happened during shipment or during a botched installation. But they ordered a second part and it fit perfectly. I now have an un-dented console and all the stitches on my shifter boot.

Yay!

Tks for posting the pictures, I've wondered what it looked like under there.

John, you are always so good at showing what you are talking about.
Thanks, I always worry about that spot myself.

You must have really large arms. Work out? How in the world did you crack that?

My wife bought me a pillow for me to use as an armrest since I'm pretty tall and I would have to lean to the right to rest my elbow on top of the "holy-crap-hard-as-hell-plastic" that covers the center tunnel...

BA...

Actually, the problem is more that I don't work out and have an above-average central body weight that is merely transmitted through my arms...

I should add, too, that I heard the crack quite a while ago. As I continued to lean on that exact same spot with my elbow getting into the car every time the dent did not appear until several months after that and has gotten progressively worse over time.
