Custom Hardtop

I am having a local body shop make a custom hardtop for my sky. just thought i would share the photos. The original peice weighed a ton so they made a mold of the top to cut down on weight. they said they would be able to make a couple if people are interested. i know alot of people talk about hard tops, so i thought i would share. here are some pics of the progress.
I will have pics of the top on the car friday.

Looks great man, I would definitely be interested in a factory look hard top, I'm sure alot of others would be as well especially the track going types who don't want to have a custom roll cage installed.

Sounds great. What's it made from? And weight it so you can post that info too! Will it hook in the same way as the soft does in front and back?

Tell them to make it nice and they can sell about 30 - 50 I would estimate from past threads about this!

Keep us posted!

I would be in for one @ a reasonable cost if the workmanship was right.

I have over $5000 invested into the prototype top right now, to get the mold made and all. its just a small shop that is doing it for me but there work is award winning. featured in many magazines also. so i know that the quality wont be an issue. i dont know if they have a huge interest in making that many tops, they just said they would make some if people are interested. so i guess if anyone is interested drop a post. and i can bug them to do it or not.

Let me know a price, also of course some pix/specs. How is this going to be attached, my goal in a hardtop would be one that is installed w/ the top in the trunk still (doesnt have to be removed) and have it attach with the soft top buttress holes in the decklid and then hooked in w/ the soft top hook point on the crossbar. A guy can dream.

My car will be going into the shop this week for paint so asap would be good for the info.

I'm in...if the price is reasonable. The most important thing is how does it attach...I am assuming it uses the same front bracket and the 2 holes on the trunk...more than that and u would lose a considerable audience. I forgot about the 2 front side hitches on the side.

I'd be interested as well. If this works out I think you and that shop will make a lot of sales

Hey man, it cannot be like that on here, trust me either sell it or not, you will get a lot of PM's. We all appreciate you posting this, it is a BIG TICKET item A LOT of members have been waiting for. Pass the thread on to the autobody guy. When he see's how many people are interested in the $1000 - $1500 range, he will change his mind. It has to be easier once he gets the mold done and the technique perfected, he might as well cash in. As him for your investment back!

Good Luck!

my concern is how will it detach without causing damage on the back brackets since it is a fixed top?

It would have to detach the same way as the ragtop. Push the button and lift it up manually...I assume.

as long as you unhook the front latch first it should work out fine.

yeah i was told it uses the factory mounting points. i will have specs and pics friday once they have it on a car.
as for price, no one has put much thought into selling this top right now. we were just focused on having it on our drift car for the safety side of things.
but i would have to say it will be more than 1500 with the prices of materials these days rising everyday. and i am into hondas and you cant get a good hard top for an s2000 for under 3500. so im sure they will keep it under that, if there is an interest in these.

yeah i do have a solstice it was on the cover of hci last month,
plus i have a RHD civic that is in hci this month. as for hin orlando i was not there. GM has the car for the year for the GM tuner source tour. we do our own tour the Tjin Edition Tour. and we were at another show with our other cars. Tjin Edition Tour we worked with another shop to get the top that was originaly made for a sky, we then took and had it revamped for our solstice. so there is molds for it both ways. I am renting a sky on friday to double check fitment before it gets any further. and then i can get pics posted up.
