Daytime Running Lights... are they off?

I guess I've always been annoyed not being able to shut off the daytime running lights on my previous cars. During the day, I pulled up behind a big truck and turned off the "Auto Lights". To my surprise, it looked like the daytime running lights turned off. Is this right?

If so... SWEET! I hate those damn things!!!

Yes, this will shut off your driving lights as well as your head lights.

Hey Steve, do you post over at the RPF? I see you in your Stormtrooper outfit and have noticed your slight Star Wars obsession.

I'm there from time to time.

So what does everyone drive with? I'm always driving with them off now. I've always hated them.

Our cars are small and low. There will be many times when folks won't see the car, but they will see the lights. Keep 'em on.

If you turn 'em off and find an increasing number of incidences where people cut you off, turn in front of you, or all around act like they can't see you.....maybe they can't.

Yes, you can turn the DRLs off. This only lasts for while the car is on. If you turn the car off, the next time you start it the DRLs will be on again.

Personally, I find it much more annoying to have to turn them off every time I get in the car. I just leave them on.

As a side note, it always annoys me when folks turn off their DRLs on a group run. As a run leader, it is hard enough to make sure your group is all there when you've got 15 to 20 cars following you on twisty roads. The distinctive Solstice and Sky lights help me keep track of whether or not other traffic has cut off part of the group. If folks turn off their DRLs, I can no longer tell by a quick glance in the rear view if our group is still together.

Even with the lights on, some people still don't see you and try to shove you out of your lane. That's happen to me a lot since I got Elvira. I guess maybe that's why I drive with my thumb on the horn.

I am glad you mentioned that about on the runs... I know I am one that is slow and I look for the familiar lights also to.. either keep up or see if the cars behind are still there...... SkyBaby

Do those little lights above the headlights, tucked back a little, have a name?

This car definately has the coolest headlight arangement in any car I've owned.

The little lights above and set back from the headlights are your running lights if I understand your question correctly. I have heard some call this the side marker lights but I always refer to the orange lights on the fenders as the side marker lights.

The owners manual calls those lights parking lights. They are the day time running lights on a Vette. They are amber on a Vette. I put 194A bulbs in and mine are amber too. Way cool. I also put silver stars in the turnsignals. They look chrome when off. Look more like the rest of the lights. The 194a's do not look amber when they are off as you can't see the bulb.

Yep, I guess I need to update my cheat sheet. Parking lights seems to be the proper description.
