Delayed Locking

The OM mentions a "Delayed Locking" Feature (see pg 2-7 of 2008 SKY OM). I've tried it. It doesn't work. Has anyone been able to make this work?

You mean teh 5 seconds after the last door delay?

Yes, have had it since about day 3 -- love it.
Just have to remember to hit the button of the fob while getting out of the car... You'll hear the Ding-ding and you are all set...

Yes Skip, it's in the owner's manual. Hence, the parenthetical in my initial post. I do it like the manual says, or like Rick says, with door open and I don't get no stinkin delayed lock. I push the lock button once and no ding dong...just a pfft....both doors lock immediately.

I'm wondering if this was originally a feature that had to be discontinued for whatever reason and they didn't remove the section in the 2008 manual. Or is it a SKY vs RL issue? Or maybe they removed it when they put the door lock buttons on the doors. That's why I'm asking.

Can anyone with a 2008 RL confirm whether or not delayed locking works on their vehicle? Mine does not. If it doesn't work with every other 2008 RL, It's no big deal. But if mine is unique, it would nice to know why.

Edit: I'm an engineer. If you know engineers, sometimes they just gotta know why. Why why why? It doesn't matter if it makes any difference in the world. Just gotta know why. Like the tides. We're all told in schools that the tides go up and down due to gravitational forces of Moon and Sun. But if gravity is an attractive "pull" force why does the tide RISE on the side of the earth opposite the Sun or Moon, in opposite direction of the gravitational pull? Ever wonder about that, eh? Go ahead google it. The answer is out there, but most discussions either gloss over this fine detail or get it wrong. Lots of bad stuff in text books too. Why why why? Sometimes the fun is just in knowing. So tell me why my damn delayed locking doesn't work...dammit. And Skip, don't say it's because of the Moon...or Sun.

Maybe a dumb question, but did you follow the instructions to turn this feature on? My 2007 GXP manual say the following:

Quote:
Your vehicle is programmed from the factory with
this feature turned off. To turn the feature on,
you must go through the Driver Information
Center (DIC), if the vehicle has one. See DIC
Vehicle Personalization on page 152.
And the following description is provided in the DIC section of the manual:

Quote:
DELAY LOCK
This feature, which delays the actual locking of the
vehicle, can be enabled or disabled. When
DELAY LOCK appears on the display, press and
hold the reset button for at least one second
to scroll through the available settings:

ON (default):
The doors will not lock until
five seconds after the last door is closed. You can
temporarily override delayed locking by pressing
the lock button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter a second time.

OFF:

The doors will lock immediately when
pressing the lock button on the RKE transmitter.
See Delayed Locking on page 66 and Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation on page 62
for more information. Choose one of the available settings
and press the information button

Thanks dengel, but my manual is a bit different.

1. It mentions delay lock on pag 2-7, but does not cross reference any other page, does not even mention it is a user options, and does not say it is set by default.

2. The DIC section of the OM does not identify delay lock as an option.

3. It is mentioned in the "Getting to know your SKY" booklet as an option with a default of "on".

Unless the value got switched before I bought it, the default is "on", and mine ain't on. When I get a chance, I'll check and see if it is literally available as I scroll through the actual settings display and see if it was turned off somehow.

I guess what has me really wondering is the one place it should identify the option (the detailed DIC part of the OM), it's not there. Not a word.

Edit: Anyone with a 2008 RL want to chime in here?

Mine has done the delayed locking from the get-go.
I don't know if it came that way from the factory or if it was done at the dealership.

Supposedly, the default is "on" from the factory. My ultimate test is to cycle the DIC and see if it shows on mine. Unfortunately, I just put her to bed (all covered up) and we got the snow & ice monster coming tomorrow so it's likely she'll be that way for a few days now. I'll let ya'll know what happens when I get a chance.

Hey it Does Work!

Thanks guys for without someone pointing this out I would not know that my
Delayed Locking was turned off
Dengel your instructions were close but I had to get the OM out to figure that I had to hold the DIC button and DIC change button both down for 1 second and make sure to use the DIC button to scroll, I did not want to reset the oil life by hitting the change button, OMG.
But hey my 2007 built in October after the plant shut down with the door locks on the door now chirps when I lock the door the first time instead of 2 clicks on the remote and chirps when I unlock it. You hit the door lock on the door panel shut the door and yes its a minute or so and then it locks and chirps, Yea!
This car is just to Smart!
Bogie have patience, and being a engineer yea I know your frustrations!

Just to keep things on topic my 07 GXP does teh delay lock thing as well. It bongs to let you know you have locked the car.

I've never played with my DIC, but it wasn't hard to get it up in personalization mode. I found my DIC DL was "off". It only took a few strokes to set it "on", and now my premature locking problem is solved.
