Does it matter which brand of gas you use?

It just might! Here is a link to an article I ran accross, where the car companies are considering and may be recomending, in the future, a brand of gas to use. http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...s_you_use.html

Yea, the info was posted already in our forum here. Still tho interesting reading, esp the part about Ford recommending BP fuels on their new vehicles, going as far as labeling on the gas cap--

On another interesting note lower in the page was this also interesting article regarding convertibles--

Wonder what the criteria are for being the recommended fuel supplier. Imagine it has more to do with being the high bidder rather than anything performance related.

I like Chevron myself. I am curious who supplies the gas for Costco which has been the cheapest in my area. Anyone know?

A guy named Elmo McKenzie. He makes it out behind his barn. Usually use either BP or Exxon 'cause they're effin' everywhere.

Huh...weird. Mobil isn't even on that list. I've run Chevron, BP, and Mobil for different extended periods of time in my ION Redline and I honestly felt like Mobil ran the best. The Chevron was pretty close to the same, but typically (for premium) about 5-10 cents per gallon higher.

same goes for my area! Shell is about the only one on that list that is prominent in my area...that and Citgo, which isn't on the list. We use Shell in the Sky...but I use whatever is the cheapest premium I can find in my Harley.

93 Octane is good, but what sets apart the Top Tier brands is the effectiveness of the cleansing agents they add to the blend. You can get 93 octane with low- or no-quality cleansing agents and really gunk up your engine.

Good point. Honestly, getting 89 or 91 octane from a Top Tier station is better than getting 93 from a non-Top Tier.

Honestly, it's not the biggest deal in the world. I ran nothing but 87 from RaceTrac (el cheapo) in my '94 SL1 and never had an ounce of trouble with that car. I actually ran RaceTrac's 91 in my ION Redline for a while until someone convinced me to try the Top Tier 91/93 and I noticed a difference. Although, as far as cleanliness goes, you should be more or less fine with whatever you choose.

I'm surprised Sunoco wasn't on the list... I thought they were known for great high quality 93 octane. I guess Im a sucker for marketing somewhere in there.

Watched a History Channel "Modern Marvels" episode about "Gasoline", they said with the massive pipelines running from all around the U.S. and the cost of the pipelines, that there is only one oil company (did not mention which company) that has it's own pipelines and that all the rest just "rent" time on the other lines (Texas Eastern if I remember right) and the gas from say a "Shell" refinery will be running through the lines but "Chevron" will be paying for the time/gallonage and the "Shell" gas will meet Chevrons specs. It was an hour show and I condensed the hell out of it but hope you get the idea.
