Door Seal Not Right...Still!!!

I took my baby into the dealer to have the seal on the passenger side window fixed/adjusted. I posted on another thread about some of this. They replaced the seal a couple of weeks ago, which didn't work. They told me they would need to send it out to the collision center. On Monday, I took it to the dealer and they worked on it all day there to fix the OnStar they broke the first time. Then it went to the collision center the next day. I got it back this afternoon. They said they had to realign the door, the lower panel in front of the door and the hood, as well as the mounts under the hood. The inside door panels looked like pigs had a hay day in there. They were scuffed and a real mess. They had their detail guys clean that up. Everyone was so intent on checking out my extended trunk and GT Exhaust, that I failed to test the window. I drove my car out of the dealer, made a u-turn and noticed a bunch of wires hanging down on the passenger side on the floor. Turned around and went back...another half hour to have them "tape" them back up. I got home and rolled up the windows to washed it. The window seats worse than when I took it in! This is twice I have had to take it in and twice it wasn't fixed. Have any of you had similar incidents? What does it take to get this stuff fixed????

It seems you have an incompetent service department. I suggest that another differant mechanic work on it in the service dept. When I was mechanicing I would take on the hard jobs like that. It gives satisfaction to have it done right the first time. The other thing is maybe a differant dealership? I know sometimes that is not possible. I would try a heart to heart talk with the service manager. Tell him your concerns that someone is not doing a professional job. If you still get no satisfaction the owner of the dealership would be where I would go.....Skip...You should be able with the window up and door closed feel a drag when trying to pull a dollar bill that is inserted between the seal and window glass. It is how I did it when adjusting the clearance for tightness... Heck if I lived closer I would fix it for you and make sure my mess was cleaned up ...And just charge you for a hug and maybe a beer...

Thanks, Skip! Do wish you were closer. It seems no one cares anymore about a job well done. Just get you in and out as fast as they can. I hear there is a bulletin on this and will pursue this with my dealership, management if necessary. If they don't give me satisfaction, there are several dealers within shouting distance(not as convenient) where I can take it. Just a hug and a beer, huh?

Door seals are on the Endangered Species list...along with pinion seals...this could be the delay Saturn has in obtaining them...

Actually, they already replaced the door seal two weeks ago. That didn't fix the problem, so then they sent it to the collision center to adjust the window, thus reconfiguring the entire right frontend. Still not right. I'm thinking a new top if they can't fix it.

I do not think a new top will do. They have the front to rear adjustment, the tilt in or out adjustment, as well as how far up it will go. If all these are done correctly, then there should be no problem. The most important one is the tilt in or out at the top seal....Skip...

I just called the service manager and had a discussion with him. But I was nice!!! I am taking it back in on Monday. I am going to print out your post to show them. I expressed my concern that they don't know what they are doing. He assured me it would be fixed! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Thanks, Andy! I can handle this better than if there were any mechanical problems though. This is minor...just frustrating. I don't do frustrating very well! Third time is a charm, right?

BTW, when are you going to join us for one of our runs? This Sunday to Big Bear???? Or June for the beach run? We really have fun. Please come out and play with us!!!!

OH no not me too.

I just picked up my Sky on friday the 11th and i'm having issues with my weather stripping on the drivers side. It looks like it pulled out of the top an dwhen i look at the bottom of the top on the inside i can see daylight because the bottom part of the top isnt seating right. Its like it is not aligned with the seals on the car. God i hope i'm not in for everything that your going through.

Good luck with yours I'll let you know how i make out.

I go in for service on tuesday.

I'm taking it to hagerstown MD here where i live.

I hope I don't have to drive to MD to get it fixed right! Good luck with yours. I'll be interested to see what your outcome is. You might want to take Skips rendition of the fix with you. I told them it was an adjustment initially, but they said they had to follow their "procedures" and replaced the seal. Whatever!

Now here's one for the books. The dealer will take you home in their shuttle, but won't pick you up. I understand this is standard most places. But I told them I have another car at home for transportation if they could just pick me up, I would use my car. Can't do that! So they paid for 4 days of a rental car to the tune of $150.00!
Hel-lo! I also told the Service Manager about that and told him I really question their practices. He said that didn't make sense and he would shuttle me both ways next week!

Doesn't the saturn warranty say that they have to give you a loaner vehicle if your car will be in overnight?

What you problem is the not seating of the locator clip. When you put the top up where the bottom part meets the seal is a clip that slides in to a slot. You pulled up on the top and the tang ,clip missed sloting. Undo what you did and pay attention were the tang clip is and slot that as you push forward to lock the top. Most times it does it by itself as the top is slide forward to lock. you know the pegs in hole, yadda yadda. So watch as you do this and you will see what I mean. There is a picture of it on this forum recently like yesterday...Skip...

Yes it does, but they didn't have a "loaner" so I had to get a rental. The rental agency picks you up, takes you to their facility, you have to sign away your first born, then you get a car...if they have one. I ended up with a Chevy Tahoe because they didn't have a regular car. The time spent with all this was much more inconvenient than having them drop me off. I don't drive much because I work from home. Just doesn't make sense to me to incur charges, whether for them or me, when it isn't necessary...and I offered to save them $$$.

UPDATE.....

I took my baby back to the dealership on Monday. They told me there was a bulletin on it (no kidding?) and there is a plastic part (drive link socket) that was defective and the new part is now metal. They ordered it and installed it. Well, guess what guys...it still didn't fix the problem. I told them the window isn't seating correctly, and the service adviser said they replaced the defective part as per the bulletin. Did they make the adjustments? I don't think so. AND THEY SCRATCHED MY CAR DOOR! I asked them each time NOT to wash it. Guess what guys...THEY WASHED IT! Holy crap! What does it take????

Hey Skip, maybe I should just keep driving from Vegas to come and see ya! I have to take it back in for them to fix the scratch when I get back from my vacation. I will have a heart-to-heart with their service manager then.

don't feel too bad. at least they did ....well....something.

I dropped mine off for wind noise behind the driver's ear, I was told it would be 1 day. 3 days later the service adviser said the techs were still adjusting it (naturally, based on this, I'm thinking they are really working on the problem...little did I know...). When I picked it up, the paperwork they gave me said the techs determined that the wind noise was normal and they did absolutely nothing about it. THREE DAYS in the shop and absolutely nothing was done!!

Not to mention, the A-pillar molding that was supposed to be fixed? Well, they did replace it but the fit is still off exactly as it was before.

I gave up and have decided that I'll just have to live with it. Hell, maybe it IS normal and I'm just being too picky. I get NO noise from the passenger side though.....go figure.

They were very nice and polite all the way through, but they did not resolve the problem. Well, they did resolve it for themselves by deciding that they don't want to deal with it so they've concluded that wind noise through the seal is normal.

I know what you mean. I am picky and I admit it, but when you try to open the passenger door, and it fights you because the seal is on the outside, instead of the inside where it belongs, I tend to get a little testy. I never lose my cool and am always courteous, but I let them know what my expectations are. I have a problem accepting mediocrity. No one wants to think outside the box and get creative. If I did that in my business, I would be out of a job! I don't think they get paid to think! They are always nice and courteous, but a little short on technical prowess IMO. I go in each time with the expectation that it will be returned working. I am a positive person...most of the time. After three times and three failures, I begin to question their competence. They have had my car for a total of 14 days. That should give them time to fix it, wouldn't you think?

The inconvenience is a pain in the rear, but I want my car to be as it was designed, and I won't "settle" for less.
