Drive a Chevy Cobalt for 2 days and You'll REALLY appreciate your Sky!

I had to take my Sky in to get the buttress plug replaced as it was corroded and sticking and they gave me a Chevy Cobalt to drive. Wow...when's the last time you had to manually roll down a window?

Problem solved, the buttress no longer sticks and am so happy to be back in my Sky.

Now if it would only stop raining long enough to put the top down. SNOW in the mountains outside of Seattle last night...they call this summer?

Oh..and I'm finally a member long enough to have an avatar! Meet Denny....

I am guessing the car you had was exclusively a loaner so it would make sense the the dealer would use as cheap of a loaner as possible.
Second, from an enthusiast standpoint manual windows are not all bad. They reduce the price of the car plus they reduce the weight of the vehicle by some amount (10-15lbs maybe). That may not seem like a lot but a reason cars are so heavy anymore is beacuse people want all the gadgets and gimos that really tack on the weight to the cars.
With all that extra weight you accelerate slower, brake longer and turn more poorly. Not to mention it adds hundreds if not thousands to the price of the vehicle (nav) and requires a more robust electrical system.
Most people on this site are not avid racing enthusiasts and would not be willing to forgo these goodies but I bet many Camaro, Mustang and Vette drivers would go without PL, PW, AC, etc to save a couple hundred pounds and pick up a couple extra tenths in the quarter mile. Not to mention save some money to buy some longtubes.

If I push the button for my window to go down and it doesn’t go down I drive to the dealer and he fixes it. Not terrible in a convertible. If I go to start my car and it doesn't start, I take the other car or I call the tow truck and they drag it to Saturn where they fix it. We compete the car often. I am not willing to sacrifice P/S for a .1 or 2. The concept of a daily used car sans A/C in SC is unacceptable after the age of 17. I could live without P/L in a car that I can reach the passenger button. How do you have a working alarm without power door locks? Our roommate has a car that doesn’t have a key fob. That is one step away from getting out and cranking the starter. If this was my AX only car I could see a radio delete, rerouting to bypass the A/C compressor, maybe even taking it out. But, how do you live like that daily? As far as Nav; I can read a map, I just don’t see the need for it. Had the monsoon not come in this car we would have never ordered it. Oh! And yeah, exhaust HAS to exit out the back; I never want to hear the exhaust. The ‘Vette owners we run into on the street are all middle aged men with teeny weenies who barely exceed the speed limit and are the last ones off a light. I can’t remember the last time I saw a ‘Vette on the street getting treaded like she deserved to be treated. YMMV -J

yea its called the junkyard, lol. my 97' celica has crank windows, as does the back seats of the 04' neon. i think its the other way around. having manual windows/ transmission makes one appreciate automatic windows/ transmission. nothing is hott about leaning all the way across to roll down windows on the far side just to hit on some babes. you really can't say roll down windows beats an electronic window that rolls all the way down/up with a push of a button (dead battery instances aside). just because some of us are young, doesn't mean we don't appreciate devices that replaced stuff we had to do manually. hell even the battery replaced the action of manually turning the crank at the front of the car.

manual seats beats electronic seats. its way faster. although i cant think of an instance of manual windows being better. its bad enough the controls in the sky is way out of reach, imagine the range of motion of trying to crank the sucker, pure hell i say.

and if you think the cobalt is crappy, try driving the aveo. i took the thing to vegas. i though i was gonna be blown off the road by the wind even when there wasn't much.

Well I lived in the Detroit area for over 8 years so I am very familiar with some of the creature comfort sacrifices some people make to get a little more of an advantage.
Never want to hear the exhaust? Oh man, you have not lived until you hear and feel the rumble of the V8 under the hood.
I would not have bought the Sky without these comforts but I did not buy it for racing.
My 92 Camaro did not have a fob until I put an alarm in it but I can't say that has really ever bothered me. Oh no I have to put the key in the door.
My winter car (89 Grand Marquis) has no AC and neither of the front windows go down. I still drive it in the Summer here in KS in 100+* heat. It is warm but so what, there are a lot of people in the US who have it far worse than that. No AC in the house would be pretty unbearable though.

What about the Solstice?? The first base models had crank windows...didn't they?

My hubby bought a new Chevy S-10 pickup 6 years ago and got the "cheap" version with crank windows, no electric mirror adjustment, bench seat, manual transmission (V6). It was cheap and PAID for in 2 years. Thank God it's not my ride!!
