Driving harder and getting better mileage??

Last week I was taking it easy on the car and my mileage was showing at around 14/15 mpg. Now I've started driving it harder and the mileage is up to around 18/19. Is this normal?

Also, I still think 19 is a bit low, although maybe not since I have the auto transmission. I was hoping to get somewhere in the low 20s but it hasn't happened yet.

The only thing I've added to the car was a CAI and that was the day after I bought it so I have no way to do a before & after comparison to see what effect the CAI is having, if any.

This engine was meant to be driven fairly hard. You don't even start to get into its power band until around 4000 RPM.

the only disadvantage I have is the auto transmission. It won't let me keep the rpms too high unless I'm accelerating.

I have a Redline auto and I get, consistently, 25 to 27 MPG driving at normal speeds and punching it when I get the urge. Which is fairly regularly.

hrmm...I think I'm gonna have the dealer give it a quick look while it's in getting the top repaired and see if they find anything strange that might be affecting the mileage.

I have the auto transmission and I had noticed the same thing...once I got over 1000 miles, she seemed to settle in and now I'm averaging ~22 mpg.

I'm close to 1000 miles. I'll be well over that after this coming weekend's drive down to the keys.

Your mileage doesn't sound bad for a mix of around town and some highway. My DIC is showing a little over 20 with the same mix. Don't compare your MPG with the Redline... they get much better mileage.

Here is a Poll

That was taken a while back. Will perhaps give you info on the what mileage owners are getting in raw numbers. Sounds like to me that your mileage could be to low, only thing that would contradict that is if your in the city all day in stop-n-go traffic. Driving in Miami is no longer a picnic with the traffic down thar--Anyways, check this thread out--
What kind of fuel milage are you getting? It might give ya some tips--

24 Mpg

I have been really driving my RL hard with virtually no interstate cruising and I am averaging 24 plus miles per gallon...according to the info center. It actually does better than my original base SKY.

my average MPG for my redline (and I drive it like I stole it, and have taken it to the 1/4 mile twice) has been a steady 22 MPG, right what the sticker said for City mileage. I've yet to really take it on a long highway trip. Soon though in 3 weeks when I go to Atlantic City.
