The end of Saturn?

General Motors Corp., working to cut costs to win $12 billion in government loans, is studying whether to shed its Saturn, Saab and Pontiac brands in addition to Hummer, people familiar with the matter said.

Saab and hummer are both going away.

From what ive heard Pontiac and saturn are going to combine. G5 and G6 going south soon. No idea which name there going to keep but i wouldnt be suprized if the solstace gets dropped as the sky is made overseas. More parts for them.

Just read the article from Reuters about the possible plans to shed Saturn as well as Pontiac, Saab, and Hummer. Guess we will know for sure next week in Washington. Looks like GM wants to keep Buick and GMC.

I would hate to see Saturn go.

I will say this over and over again. GM needs only three divisions: Chevy for cars, Cadillac for luxury and GMC for anything that's not a car. Get rid of Saturn, Buick, Chevy trucks & vans, Hummer and Pontiac. I don't even think Chevy and Cadillac should even share a platform. Ray

Pontiac and saturn do have plans to be combined.

The diffrence is no matter what happens most of the cars on saturns line are going to still be made under the opel and vauxhill name. Combining the 2 under one name or the other. Pontiac has been a dieing name for the most part if you think about it and there are alot more saturns out there than pontiac but thats upto gm which gets the boot first.

Ive also heard pontiac being dropped and merging certain cars into saturn dealerships. Being saturn dealerships are alone and by themselves doing just as good as the BPG dealerships and the fact that if they pulled saturn those dealerships would be out. Pulling pontiac would only pull one line away from dealerships. Buick is the one not selling many vehicles anymore.

Ive also heard that the outlook and buick version of the acadia will be dropped and it will turn into a GMC only product. Cutting more costs as only one line to be made.

All pontiacs are copys of chevy counterpart. Other than the G8. Lets make the G8 a novelty like the SSR, GTO, etc. End of that line.

Buicks are just that. A BUICK, i rarely see them on the road or anything other than there version of the acadia. Doesnt need to be there.

Thats 2 lines, and sell hummer. See how things work with that.

I also agree with the chevy trucks thing. Lets make work trucks chevy. All others GMC.

Caddy IMO needs to drop the escalade. Lets add the $5000 worth of stuff to the denali. Which would still make it $10,000 cheaper than the caddy. Another model off the line.

I could turn around GM if they let me but they wanna look at getting rid of the good things as saturn (even tho id only drive the redline or the outlook) sells a decent number of cars and its more looked at as a fuel economy dealership.

But the skys are still also made overseas. They can kill down to 1 plant. Kill the whole plant in the USA. And they could import than from england. Solstace is only made in the USA.

Toyota? Quality? Nope. No better than American made.

Honda, on the other hand...

If you kill the plant in De, you will put many working people out of work and kill the economy in the Wimington area, I feel for the workers, not the CEO's, yeah, flying into DC in private jets...meanwhile a family is struggling in De...yeah, that is so fair...NOT!!!!
