Exhaust Question

Due to budgetary constraints I won't be getting a full new exhaust and cat this year (and possibly not next as wife has other priorities for the car, ie the radio is dying and the upholstery needs some help $$$$$)

Has anyone simply swapped mufflers to improve sound? I'm not looking for the wake up the neighbors/rattle the glass setup. Eventually I will replace everything however looking at Magnaflow's website I can pick up something decent in the $100-$200 range. I'm just looking to deepen the sound and raise the volume under throttle into the 85 dB range. If I did my research correctly (for reference) stock is in the low 70s dB and solo race cat back is just short of 100 dB Thoughts? Experiences?

If it is temporary, go Magnaflow.

If it may be a long time before you shell out for a complete system, contact SOLO and ask if they have a muffler that will plug in place of the stock one.

This is actually the exact muffler Magnaflow uses in their system.

They should have consulted me before they started working on your car....remember?

To be fair...I believe it was one of the original owners in Mass. who installed this muffler and the exhaust tips on our NAs.

That's the same one I used when I added dual exhaust to my '99 300M.

Is this the correct one?

https://www.magnaflow.com/products?p...atiblevehicles

Looks reasonable if so, guess I need to crawl under and make sure everything is just brackets and clamps as I don't have ready access to a torch or welder. Any particular fabrication that has to go along with this?

That's the right one but I'm reasonably sure it isn't a bolt right up affair. Maybe someone here has done one but I believe some welding or slip fitting is involved.

This is not Plug & Play. You will definite need to do some welding. Remember u need to weld on the extensions from the outlets and tips if u intend to use new tips...or even use your old tips.

Did Solo high flow cat and QR 18 resonator on stock system. Very sweet sound and no drone. If you want loud, not for you.

I found this today, since this specific part is almost twice as much anywhere else I feel like this may be a mis-price? What am I missing?

That price is a STEAL...usually it is somewhere between 750 and 850.

Yea I'd grab that before they figure out how far off they are. Of course, it could be slow moving old stock they want to get rid of since they only have 2 left. Either way, I'd jump on that even if you're NA. Trade that to a turbo guy for a 2.5" system and cash and you'd be golden NA (works for turbo but no power difference on a stock car 2.5" to 3").
