Exhaust Smoke in the Trunk..

There is a post taking place about a "Hole in the trunk"...
http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/sh...164#post176164

Reminded me of an issue I experienced, but I wanted to post seperately.

One day after warming up my car, I opened up the trunk and exhaust smoke billowed out... enough to have me concerned. I thought I had a leak... It seemed dangerous (and unclean) to have it collect there... my big concern being are there openings between the trunk and the passenger area that will allow the exhause to come through.. Even if it is seperate from passengers, ya put groceries in the trunk, and if you get stuck in traffic...

So the link at the top reminded me, and had me realize, that it has to be the mentioned hole that allowed the smoke in. Its not gonna happen all the time, but i imagine that if a slight wind is blowing the right direction, the exhaust can move up the back of the car and into the trunk area.

Anyone else experience this?

this may happen to people, but the need to warm the car and then open trunk (to put down top, say) are tasks that dont usually happen at same time!

I would think any car or truck would have the same problem. The Sky has that opening to release the air in the trunk when closing the trunk. If it gets exhaust in there I think as you go down the road that it will go out the hole above the license plate and all the other holes , drain hole for water, that are in the trunk. Now if it really concerns you about cabon monoxide gas , just crack your windows as you drive. As to groceries in the trunk I do not think you have to worry about food poisoning....Skip....

This got me thinking a little more about the issue of venting the air for closing the trunk. The fumes issue made me think that a tubular system with a small one way flutter valve is all that would have been needed to eliminate the exhaust fumes from returning to the trunk. This is probably as Skip says not a problem, since it does vent out when you drive (I guess it does), but if your clothing is in there and the fumes come in you may smell like road kill for a while. I have not yet seen or smelt any exhaust fumes myself, but will keep a look out on it. I just think the gap at the light area is tacky and could have had a more finished look.

As you drive down the road , the rear end has so much turbulance that it will not allow the fumes to go inside. To prove it, drive in a rain and look at the rooster tail that comes off the rear end...Skip...
