First Oil Change, Crack !!!

Hi Everyone,
Had my baby in for first oil change and peeked in while on the lift. Sure enough there is a crack on lower right side where the lift pushed on the body.
Done at the Saturn dealer. I showed it to the mechanic and he said he didn't do it. When oil change done, they had the bill but no word on the body damage. I talked to the service manager and siad it needs to be repaired cause they did it, not me. Owned up to the damage and will have body shop look at it and see what can be done - bondo or replace the whole piece.

Be careful out there. I've seen other threads on this same problem and made sure I checked when on the lift or they would have not told me.

speaking of which for future oil changes, is there a thread with pictures that shows you where to lift up your sky?

Crack

See the picture I enclosed with the note. The body is cracked from the nut that holds on this piece out towards the bottom crease.

I'd ask for a new piece if I were you. They can't and shouldn't bondo that section. It's plastic and you shouldn't get a bandaid fix for their mistake.

Prolly takes longer and cost more to repair!--Not only that, how to fix cracked/broken rubber? I would insist on a new piece also-- Hard to beleive that they have dim-wits working on these cars--Apparently they don't read there own stuff--Make them pay, you'll be doing the next Sky owner and yourself a favor-- After all, won't YOU be back there again?

I agree with the prior two posts as well.

I am also dismayed at the attempt to hide the problem. I would complain about that if I were you. Absolutely not good service.

Absolutely! I had my oil changed last week and noticed them sliding a board out of the lift. According to the service mgr. that is the fix after many got damaged. I love my service guys.

i would suggest going to a shop that has a pit instead of a lift.cuts down on the idiot factor.

I agree, or perhaps a drive up lift that lifts the car by a platform, which my dealer has. Just be careful they don't miss with the tires. I almost got a heart attack when my exhaust was put on by a local meineke with that platform lift. The tech brought it into the bay, and was too far right. The other tech directing him frantically jumped in front of him to stop him. If he kept going, he would've rolled the car up the ramps and off the lift on the right side......yeah......after seeing that.........I said I'd drive it up, and he said....yeah, i think you better, heh heh.

Actually that's what my dealership told me too. They have a timber (or timbers) they use to hoist it correctly. He was definitely aware of the issue, had a solution in place and was ready to do the work with out damaging the Sky. I dunno how they treat other customers (although they also do a good job taking care of our Vue) but they seem to have a special respect/love for the Sky. Pretty cool! So high marks for my dealership.

Same thing happened to me last year except they cracked both sides and had to replace both quarter panels!

Did they lift under the side rocker panels? I blame GM for releasing a car and not making the dealer UTTERLY aware. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING!!

That's the ticket. I guess it is Jiffy Lube for me. This is the most aggravating news to date, not to mention, leaking tops, defective rears, worn seat cushions, foggy tail lights, ETC.

Thanks, Antonio, didn't even think about that one. Perhaps it is best to use a floor jack and raise one tire at a time.

Sad to see this is still happening a year later! I was the first (I think) to have both quarter panels damaged by the dealer lifting it incorrectly. Make sure you check your quarterpanels!

This has got to STOP!!! Its been over a year now that we have been having these cracks in our panels. Saturn Corp. has released service bulletins regarding this before. There is a right way to lift this auto and they (the service department) should be up on it. It is so sad that we return to the dealer for a simple oil change and experience damage to our auto's done by the service department, whom are suppose to be SATURN trained technicans.

My RL goes into the shop next week to have both panels replaced. Yes both panels are cracked. My service guy had no problem and decided to do it right. Because there is a lot of stress on the panel...Do not have it bondoed, because it will crack again.
