First oil change on Monday and now I am getting a new ac compressor too!

Hi everyone, Well got the oil changed for the first time yesterday, I went and bought the Mobil one and had my dealersship change the oil.
My ac compressor had been make some strange noises, the first time they told me it was normal. I said something again yesterday and now I am getting it replaced. I like my dealership but I also think it is all about the service techs you get on certain days. So sometime next week my baby will be in the shop.
Everyone have a great day!!
To my fellow texans isn't this weather great?

Hola,

Let us know how much the oil change is. I remember seeing that somebody paid over $100 to change their oil on a Redline. I'm due for one in about a week or so and plan to bring my oil too.

I've heard a lot about people having to replace the compressor. I've yet to hear any weird sounds from mine.....keeping my fingers cross.

And yes, wonderful SKY weather.

I change my own oil and it runs about $30-$40 since I buy mobil one. By the way what mileage do you change your mobil 1 oil.

Just curious...does your dealer already have a new compressor for you? Reason I ask, is because my dealer ordered me a new a/c compressor (was having the same strange loud noises as you) over 2 1/2 months ago...and it still has not arrived!!!! Everytime I call them about it, they keep telling me "oh, it's supposed to come in on Thursday"...yeah, right!!!

Sorry, I didn't ask a date of when the part would be in......I was just so happy that they finally decided to do something about the ac compressor.
I will call and ask them when I can expect it.

What kinds of noises are you hearing from your compressors?

only with AC on or do you hear it when off?

Not sure if you were asking me or Kainman...but I'm hearing very loud whining/growling/groaning noises only when the a/c compressor is ON. It has gotten so loud, that at times it overpowers the stereo. Of course, living in Chicago...I don't really need the a/c now...but I still want the darn thing fixed. The Saturn tech that looked at it agreed that it definitely was not normal. Lots of Solstices have had similiar noises coming from the a/c compressor. Yet, some folks claim to never hear any noises with the compressor on...so that leads me to believe that there was a batch (or batches) of bad compressors that slipped through the assembly line.

I have to agree it is like a growling sound or almost like the compressor is running to fast and is trying to slow down. It is only when the ac is on. It does not make the noise at any other time. It has gotten louder as time as passed. I know it is getting cool here in Texas too but it is a very annoying noise.

Thanks! thats the info I needed. I just like to stay on top of issues like this that way if I start to hear something similiar, I know where to start looking.

Well my Sky is going in tommorrow morning for its oily/filter change AND OEM CAI install. I am bringing in my own oil Mobil 1, only I bought the "advanced SuperSyn" instead of the "regular" SuperSyn. The Advanced says to replace oil either by 15,000 miles or once a year. I of course will continue to change the oil when the DIC says so, or every 5K miles no matter what the computer says or the oil can. I did try to find the AC/Delco Gold oil filter but Wal-Mart only carries Fram and couple other off the wall filters, so I'll buy the OEM filter from the dealer tommorrow & I'll ask my adviser to find some of the better filters for me. BTW, I paid $28.68 for this better syn oil (5Qt. jug), only like 6-7 bucks more over the 5K version--I think I like that 10k insurance if you will, just in case. Plus my research on da intrnet, I think it Mobils own webpage convinced me that is way better oil and the most superior oil made (more additives over the regular). Also, this stuff is "Official Motor Oil of NASCAR" that ahh gave me even more confidence. Yea yea, perhaps it is over kill but WTF, whats couple dollars more for the best syn oil made on the planet right? PS I also bought a single quart to keep in the garage in case I should need a few drops to keep her topped off. That was $6.46. Yea yea I know buying the 5Qt jug each quart only costs $5.73, but that is being used in the AM. Perhaps when i have couple more extra bucks I'll buy the biggie for spare oil, but ah $37.25 for a first pop is enof--(plus 6% tax obviously)---MB I'll let you know what I was charged tommorrow-

Don't feel too bad, I just had my wife's mercedes in for a scheduled 12k service and oil change. Cost me $430 . $100 oil change seems like a bargain to me now.

WOW, now that does remind on my first service bill that I received on my Porsche 924S. If i recall, it was over $550 bucks, So I do understand your pain. OUCH!! Why does it cost so much to change the oil on a German car?
