Fist-full of Door Handle

The craziest thing happened to me, today.

I went to open my unlocked driver’s side door and got a fist full of door
handle (the whole housing came out in my hand) and the door didn’t open.
I crawled into the passenger seat, opened it from the inside, and left the
window open to access it from the inside handle.

There is now blue painters tape holding it on and into its hole in
the door. Looks like I’ll be driving the Volvo to work, tomorrow,
as hubby heads to the dealership to have them take care of this.

Has anyone had a similar experience? What’s up with this?!

It's probably just the SKY's way of saying "Get this Cobalt POS off my frikin car". Sort of like a new host rejecting a transplant.

Skip, I went and read that, thanks for the direction.
I am in the Volvo today. Hubby was seen at 7:33a, it is nice being in biking distance of the dealership. The service guy told him it would be 45 minutes, they had to take the door panel off. When asked if this was frequent he was told this was the first they had seen. He did remember he was in just last week for the oil change. Did he want to wait or catch a ride home? He waited. About 10 minutes later the mechanic knew what the problem was, never moved the car. Saturn didn’t have the part in stock; they only order parts 2x a week. It is too late to get in on Wednesday delivery, so the part is alleged to be here Saturday ~4p. He was told to plan on being in Monday AM. They will be getting a call around 5p Saturday, to make sure it is there. I will keep you apprised. -J

Bad Joke

Man, I do not like hearing this. This is like a bad joke! What holds the door handle on anyway, plastic clip's? Are there any bolts & nuts or is it just some micky mouse 'snap' together set up to save weight?

Oh no! Geeze maybe GM figured since the Sky is a sports car the doors wouldn't be opened because every one would crawl through the window Nascar style.

Has the problem source been identified?

Design?
Manufacturing?
Parts?

We won't be 'Duke Boying' through the window any time soon. He can barely get in when I don't put the seat back for him. He has done a job to his knee with the fog light switch. I don't know why he has a problem; the man only has a 26.5 inseam. You would think egress & regress wouldn't be difficult. –J

That happened to me, maybe a year ago. However, I could open the door by holding in the lock part while pulling on the handle. My dealer replaced the whole door handle for me.

Frozen Door Handles

Sky is fine but our 2000 Silverado had both handles freeze during the ice storm last December while sitting outside. After chipping off the ice when we pulled yikes plastic door handle in hand and frozen truck door. Well it seems everyone in town and metro area that drives a 2000+ Chevy Silverado did the same thing for after the storm when we called to get a replacement door handles they were back ordered. So 4 weeks of driving around with ropes in the window to pull inside handle to open door, you might be a redneck if you got ropes to open your pickup doors! $380.00 dollars for two new handles replaced and Wahoo no more ropes in the windows, priceless

Had it happen to me a few months ago and my dealer stepped right up. Just a bad design-- all of the weight is on about $.001 worth of plastic. Love those accountants designing cars

Had the same thing happen about a year ago. Driver side handle just broke loose. Took it to the dealer around 5:30pm and by noon the next day had her back. No problem since. From the parts I saw it just seperated from the door frame.

Still stock and will keep it that way.
